Hello listers, Looking for contact with researchers of James FIELD (b Sydney) & Winifred BOYLE (said she was born Kyneton). Jenny
Dear listers, I'm looking for contact with researchers of John Edward DAVIES ( b? - d?) & Eliza Witt WINGFIELD (b cir 1850 - d 1908 Richmond, Vic). They had a child named Edward Arthur who died in Richmond, Vic in 1889 aged 7 yrs. Was he born in SA? Other children born Richmond, Vic in 1890s. Have a hunch the family came to Vic in search of work while Melbourne was still booming but SA was in the grips of depression as John gave his occupation as a painter in 1892. Jenny
Hello listers, I am researching the family of Edwin John DAVENPORT (b 1863 Fryers Ck, Vic - d ?) & Emily Ann Winter GRAHAM (b Adelaide - d ?). Their children born in the 1880s and early 1890s were mostly born in Ascot Vale, Vic. Haven't found the deaths of Emily or Edwin and I suspect they went to SA as the depression in Melbourne really hit home. Is anyone else interested in this family? best wishes, Jenny
Hello listers, David CLIFFORD (b ? - d ?) & Mary Eliza SCOTT (b ? - d ?) had 2 children in Richmond & Nth Melb in 1889 and 1892 before moving to Blue Mountain (Daylesford area) where they had another child. Family then disappears. Suspect they went back to their home state which may have been SA. Are there any other researchers out there? Jenny

Hello Diane Glen Harrow at Belgrave is now a lovely B and B - my daughter and her husband had a couple of days there straight after their marriage, which was on Puffing Billy. I think if you google Puffing Billy tourist railway in the Dandenongs, and also accommodation in the Dandenongs, you will get some information and maybe a picture or two. Looking for information about any of these families, initially in Melbourne. James and Jane (Wylie)Whiteford and their 2 children (Mary Reid Whiteford and George (Thomas) Whiteford) arrived in Melbourne on the Garland as assisted immigrants in 1852. James and Jean Wyllie married on the 27th August 1849 in Campbbeltown. Jean was born in Stewarton Ayrshire in Sept 1821 and was the daughter of Thomas Wyllie and Jean Morton who married at Kilmaurs in April 1806. Jean was the daughter of George Morton and Jean Wothertspoon. James, my great great grandfather, was born 1826. His parents were Alexander Whiteford and Margaret Cain. James's sisters were Catharine (bn abt 1821), Margaret (bn abt 1823) and possibly Rosann (bn abt 1825). According to the Campbeltown Scotland 1841 Census they were all born in Ireland, James in 1826 but he was christened in Campbeltown in May 1826. James is listed as a journeyman mason on the 1841 Census. His son, James, my great grandfather said in a letter he left about his early days in Melbourne, that his father was a builder. While James migrated the remainder of the family remained in Campbeltown with Catharine marrying Donald Galbraith in 1847. They had no children and I have found no record of Margaret marrying. James, my great grandfather was born in Richmond in 1854/55. The family moved to Malvern while it was still Gardiners Creek. They lived for 40 or 50 years at the cnr of Wattle Tree and Glenferrie Sts. However, James took to a wandering life early, leaving home and working as a station hand, eventually ending up in Nth Qld working as a police constable and senior sergeant around Coen and Laura. He married Annie Helena Smythe who migrated from Dublin in the 1880s. Dunn/Beattie/Smith surnames are from the daughters' marriages. James and Jean's Children: Mary Reid bn Campbeltown Sco in 1849/50. I have no details of any marriage in Victoria. Thomas bn Campbeltown Sco in 1852. There was a Thomas who married Minnie Mary MACAULAY in 1895 with Minnie Macaulay WHITEFORD bn 1896 in Malvern. Thomas died in 1896 in an accident. He may have been mentioned in the newspapers at that time and I assume there was probably an inquest. He went to take a lift but it had not arrived and he fell a number of stories down the lift well. Margaret born Gard 1860 m John BEATTIE in 1891. Margaret died in Hawthorn in 1939. Their children were Maurice Melville bn 1891, John Lyle bn 1893, d BRIG 1968, Linda Myrtle bn 1893, Ivo Pearl bn 1897, Clive Roy Hopetoun bn 1901, Hugh Vere Moyes bn 1906, Mervyn Whiteford bn 1906. All were born in Malvern. There may have also been a James Clarence Beattie and a Ruby May Jane Beattie who died respectively at ARMA and MALV in 1975. A couple of the Beatties were written up as first class cricketers and one of them was in the Victorian Lacrosse team in 1914. Louisa Isabella Halcrow Prussia (that's what's on the Digger CD!) m James DUNN. She died in Dandenong in 1930. Her children included Jno Archd (John Archibald??) bn 1891 and Annie Ella bn 1893. They were both born in Malvern. I believe other children of this marriage were Louisa who married a CRIBB and died in BTON in 1941. Daisy Lilian Jane who married a REILLY and died in ARM in 1931. Thomas Butler who died in Malvern in 1939, William Francis who died in GLEN in 1958, James Morton who died in KEW in 1963 and Elizabeth Margaret (BARNES) died in 1974 in BEEC. Jane Mary Catherine (or possibly Mary Jane according to Digger) born Gard 1863, married Paul SMITH in Malvern 1893 and died in Lilydale in 1936. I have no details of any children of this marriage. I'm not sure why they would have had 2 Mary's but I can't find a record of the Mary who had been born in Scotland apart from on the Scottish records and on the Garland's passenger list, so perhaps the original Mary died. Would be really pleased to hear from anybody with an interest in or knowledge of these families. Thanks all Anne Whiteford
