John Downes OAKLY (commission agent/clerk)went to Australia from London. He married Sophia Jane CORDING on 13 March 1854 at St James Cathedral Church, Melbourne. They had 5 children: Ellen b. 1861 Bendigo, George b. 1865 Bendigo, Emma b. 1866 Sandhurst, Annie b. 1868 Bendigo and John b. 1869 Kangaroo Flat. George Downes OAKLY m1. Emma HOSKING 1896 Bendigo and m2. Edith Emily JANE 1899 Bendig. John and Sophia came to NZ around 1875 (did George go or did he stay in Aus as married twice there), I am unsure when exactly they came or how but they settled in Featherston. John died in 1890 Mirboo North, Gippsland (I think he was visiting Aus). John (the son)married Henrietta Maud RICHARDSON in 1897 Wellington, NZ. She was born 1873 Errol St Borough of Hotham, Melbourne. Her father was John Henry RICHARDSON (a hairdresser) b. 1831 Birmingham, England. I don't know when he arrived in AUS. He married 3 times: to Matilda KING, Maria FERGUSON and Francis FLOWER. Maria FERGUSON was born abt 1843 and came to AUS with her father Stephen (a shipwright) and mother Elizabeth. John and Maria were married Fitzroy 1865. She died in 1877(unsure where). I am seeking any extra info on these people. As I can afford it I will get more of the BDM's. I have lots of questions: Where are these people buried? Any siblings? What ships did J OAKLY and JH RICHARDSON come out from Eng on? How did the OAKLY's get to NZ? Where did these people work? Churches?I know there are lots of questions but any pointers are most appreciated. Thanks everyone, Virginia OAKLY NZ
Hi All, I have heaps of requests some of which have been for Birth Records and Death Records the Public Record Office doesn't hold Birth Death or Marriage Certificates they are held at the Registry Office so I would not be able to get those. I have had a lot of help from this list and am only to happy to give back. Regards Carol Near Dandenong Victoria

Thank you very much Jenny Coats The site even better than the website I was looking for. And what's more it contains a link to the web page is was searching from "Photo Rescue". For those who haven't seen this site before it's will worth taking a search for pictures of ships, places, and other items of interest connected to your ancestors and family history through the "Picture Australia" link. http://www.pictureaustralia.org/ Beryl Subject: Re: [AUS-MELB] Lenore Frost's web site From: jnnyb@aol.com Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2006 19:47:54 -0400 To: AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com Hi Beryl, I believe this is what you were after: http://www.members.optushome.com.au/lenorefrost/ best wishes, Jenny Coates
