Can SKS have a look for me for the death of Lawrence Thomas SHEPPARD/SHEPHERD, expected to be post 1907. His father was Thomas and mother Mary Jane. Also a possible re-marriage for Lawrence after his wife Teresa died in 1907. Thank you, Robyn of Geelong.
Anne I cannot seem to see them either. One way of checking is to purchase one of the birth certificates of the other siblings. This should have them named and if they are dec or not. I have one that was born and vanished, possibly died the same time but not on registration. Hi Leanne, I hope it's Avonhurst Private hospital, as my older sister was born there in '44. It's address was 5 Queen's Road, Melb. If it proves to be Avonhurst, could I have a photo of it please, if possible? Also I think there's an online site for nurses, a Google search should find it. Cheers, Robyn of Geelong. Hi everyone, I have a photo in my possession of a Private Hospital in Melb taken around the '30s or 40's. I believe it may be a hospital called Avonhurst or Llandysil. My great aunt worked in these hospitals around this time. Hoping someone may be able to help. Kind regards Leanne Baulch Canberra
Hi Leanne, In Sands & McDougall 1929 there is a "Llandyssil" in Scott St Essendon under private hospitals. In the street section, LLandyssil is listed at No. 4 Scott St (second house block from Buckley St West), with Nurses Seward and Martin as owners/proprietors. A Rupert Seward was living at No. 6 so was perhaps a relative? Neither Nurse Seward or Martin are listed under 'Nurses', but they are listed in the alphabetical section, but with no further info. No occupation is given for Rupert. best wishes, Jenny Coates Melbourne's Unemployed in the 1890s http://home.primusonline.com.au/jennyc/Melbourne/ -----Original Message----- From: Leanne Baulch <lea.dave@cairns.net.au> To: AUS-MELBOURNE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, 1 May 2006 11:30:50 +1000 Subject: [AUS-MELB] Private Hospitals Hi everyone, I have a photo in my possession of a Private Hospital in Melb taken around the '30s or 40's. I have James and Jean (Wylie) Whiteford arriving in Melbourne in 1852 from Campbeltown Scotland with two children, Mary Reid Whiteford, two years old, and George Whiteford, an infant. I can't find a record of the children post arrival. The family had a number of children born in the colony but those two disappeared somewhere. I would appreciate look ups for the two if possible to see if I have missed them anywhere. I suspect they may have died early on. Thanks all for any advice. Anne Whiteford

Hi all My uncle was adopted at birth in 1941. He did not find out he was adopted until he had a heart attack in 1994, when asked if his parents had a history of heart disease. I guess it was the time elasped that helped him find his natural roots (including me!), but he did tell me that the natural parent/s have to be willing participants and be included on some sort of register, so if the adoptive child wants to find their natural parents - they also have to agree. In his case his mother was already deceased but his natural father (with 7 other children) agreed. Father & son were reunited for about 6 years when the father died. This was the happiest time of my uncle's life. My half brother is also adopted and also born in 1971, but no one has ever told him and he would come to me and ask questions as he knows I do family history, but I know for a fact that if I enquired on his behalf, I would be told not to bother as only the adoptive child themselves can apply to family services. Given the information re: place of birth for William, his age the year of his wife's death etc this is the only one that could be his wife that I could make out. Trouble is you may need to take the punt and purchase this certificate for all other details. There seems to b 6 children registered but there is a major gap between 1st and 2nd child where more could have been born.
