Hello Ada, Thankyou for that information. So far I have found my Ah Cue listed on several indexes as John Cue, Wm. Cue, Lim Cue, and Lem Cue, I also have seen a couple of instances where he is listed as Cwe, Que, and Kew. However, I am very lucky in that he signed his marriage certificate with his Chinese symbol. I have had it tranlated by two different sources including the Chinese Embassy in Canberra and they assure me the name is spelt QIAO. It means "Bridge" or a "Crossing Over". One has to think laterally when researching Chinese ancestors. Regards, Barry Howard. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ada Ackerly" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2008 11:59 AM Subject: Re: [AUS-MELBOURNE] Cue > It may be listed as QUE, my ancestor was buried as "LIN QUE" in a little > cemetery north of Ararat. > > Regards Ada
Hello Jessie, A correction. Please note marriage for Frank Cecil Sanders, the bride's surname should read NICHOL not Nicholas. Goodness gracious Barry how silly am I? I went and had another look at the cd and guess what I found the following: Ah, Cue. Age 64; Buried 8 January 1902; Resided Wangaratta; Section Church of England No. 1; Plot 678 C. So that solves that little problem. Barry Take heart, I believe Ah is in fact a title such as Mr. so many Chinese who were known as Ah were in fact Mr. or such. Hi Barry, I find this most curious as I checked both the burial register and the Memorials Index on the Wangaratta Cemetery CD and could find no mention of Cue. I'm not saying your great grandfather is not buried at Wang - seems to me there's a problem with the info on the cd. Cemetry cd. because I have visited the grave of my great grandfather Ah CUE who is definitely buried there. It is possible that his son Henry Cue went to China (or interstate) and died there, but he was not full blooded Chinese, having been born in Wangaratta in 1889. I know he was alive in 1926 at the time of his mother's death but that is the last record of him. I believe he never married which makes it all the more difficult to find him. Thanks again Anne, I will bear your suggestion in mind. Hello and Thanks to everyone that has replied. That is correct and I have the Tyshing (Tye Shing) side covered, its the mother and her line (de) Peorrei that I am having difficulties with locating how they arrived in Aus or where they came from. Hi Ray & Laine, The Tyshing name is interesting. :) Looking at the BDM's last night, it appears the name was originally 'Tye Shing', the Grandfather being 'Lew Tye Shing'. :) Chinese may be? Hi Laine, Who were the witnesses at the wedding? Jeanne Dorothy TYSHING - d.1983 rego.02268 Parents: Thomas PEORREI & Rennemati (sic) from.... http://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/Gscot/06aprgs/46obit.htm Gordon Lew Tyshing (’35) was born at Moonee Ponds on 4 October 1919, and attended Scotch from 1933–35. Gordon lived at Essendon, and died on 16 August 2005. I cannot find the PEORREI parents in Victoria under any variation. Nor Renne's death to 1985. No entries on the Vic shipping list until 1923. Though Jeanne may have arrived by herself & shortly before her marriage in 1942. Could not find any variation of the Poerrei family at Springvale & St Kilda cemeteries... http://www.necropolis.net.au/necropolis/ nor any headstones listed on the Melbourne General Cemetery CD. There are only 16 Tyshing families in Victoria... http://www.whitepages.com.au/wp/resSearch.do Perhaps a few phone calls and you may find some descendants who could shed some light. :) The Tyshing family (including Jeanne) are buried at Fawkner cemetery... Hi Could SKS look up the surnames Peorrei or de Peorrei on the burial CD's for Melbourne or suggest where I can do an online search. I havent done any research in Victoria before so I am not aware of available resources. I have a Jean Dorothy (de) Peorrei marrying in 1942, her father Thomas (de) Peorrie was dead at the time of her marriage. Jean's mothers first name was Renee (Renne). The family was living in Yarraville, Melbourne at the time of Jean's marriage. I am not having much luck in finding any records of births and marriages for this family and I thought maybe I could work backwards. The name seems unusual and hoping that a grave will give me some leads. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Laine Clancy
Hello Anne, Thanks for that info, but I am surprised there is no record of Cue on the Wang. Cemetry cd. because I have visited the grave of my great grandfather Ah CUE who is definitely buried there. Hi Barry Just out of interest I did have a look at the Wangaratta Cemetery CD but there was no one with the family name CUE buried there. If you've been unable to find Henry's death - is it possible he went back to China?
