Does any have William James Shand HODGES (born Portand but living at Hawthorn) and Emily WINSLADE (born Collingwood but living at Hawthorn) on their list? They were married 14th Sept 1887 at Hawthorn. Alan
I like this coincidence, definitely not the same people. My Aunty Doris S Smith b1911, Sydney, married Norris Cooper 1930s in Melbourne. He was from New Zealand. They had 5 kids, 3 girls & 2 boys. Cheers. Anne from Cairns, Aus. > [email protected] wrote: >
The nearest I can find that fits Leonard Cooper is this death entry: Leonard Cooper (parents U/Known) died 1976 aged 57 at Sunbury. (This seems to suggest that he lived alone or that the informant didn't know him). I cannot find an entry that fits Doris Cooper, and the Marriage Indexes I have access to only go to 1942. Do you have any other clues that might help? Perhaps second names? Do you know if the daughters married, and if so, their married surname? What was Leonard's occupation? Kind regards, Sandra.
Hi Sandra Thank you for your help, I have Leonard Cooper b.13 March 1918 His wife who he married in this country was Doris E Smith b. 5 Nov 1913 His daughters Janet B Cooper b.31 Dec 1940 & Madeline J Cooper b.17 July 1947 Bromley Oct- Dec 1/4 of 1939 Leonards occupation was Motor Vehicle Driver. This is all I have, not sure it is enough Ann-Marie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra Beckett" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 08, 2008 11:01 AM Subject: Re: [AUS-MELBOURNE] re Leonard Cooper > The nearest I can find that fits Leonard Cooper is this death entry: > Leonard Cooper (parents U/Known) died 1976 aged 57 at Sunbury. Hi I have just joined this list as I am looking for an Uncle and his family that emigrated to Australia and the info below fits the family I am looking for. If any of this sounds familiar I would love to hear from you. Leonard Cooper b.1918 in Leicestershire Doris Cooper b.1913 Janet Cooper b.1940 Madeline Cooper b.1947 This family lived at 4 Tweedy Road Bromley Kent before they sailed for Melbourne from Southampton 6 Sept 1959 on the ship Fairsea. Many thanks Ann-Marie (England)
'mornin' all, I thank you, all who offered advice and assistance and direction with my challenge. I have sent emails, written letters and made some money for Telstra following up on your ideas. I now need to chew the cud for a cupla days until the certificates and replies come flooding in (VBG). Thanks one and all Allabest, Col
Hello List, I would very much appreciate some advice and help on finding information from shipping records in the Public Record Office, Victoria. I am looking for the joining/engagement details of seaman Arthur HAYWARD who joined German barque C Paulsen in Melbourne before she sailed for Newcastle on January 17 1889. The C Paulsen had arrived in Melbourne from London via Mauritius in late December 1888. I believe Arthur HAYWARD was resident in Melbourne at the time he signed on. What I really need to know is what his previous ship was. This would typically be given in Engagement Registers, but is not specifically listed under any of the information in PROVguide 49 on the website Public Record Office, Victoria; although it looks like the series VPRS 22 Customs, Shipping and Immigration Records 1839-1898, may contain what I am looking for. Has anyone experience of using these records? I would very much appreciate some advice on this, and if there is anyone who could do a lookup for me that would be fantastic! Thanks in anticipation. The St. Joseph Home at Broadmeadows is the only Catholic Home at the end of a train line which terminated there in the 1950s. It was on the south side of Camp Road (right) if you are coming towards Sydney Road. This is a longshot and possibly with the scant information I have is impossible to answer. Does anyone have any information of a Catholic Convent for unmarried mother's back in the 1950's. The only info I have is that it was at the terminus of a train journey from the city. I realise this is nothing to really go on, but maybe someone will remember something. Regards. Perle Brooking. Thanks for that, it certainly sounds the right one, as the story goes there was definately a train journey which terminated just a short walk from the home. Regards. Perle.
Their was also another one known as The Queen Elizabeth Home for Un-Married Mothers short term was know as Carlton home, I noticed just the other night that the whole block has been demolished it used to be right near the big round-a-bout at the top end near the Melbourne Uni and also the Melbourne General Cemetery My Father worked their back in the 1950's For H.T. McKern & Sons the builders.
