Yes, I agree I had one in the 1960s. A Viet veteran was discharged from Heidelberg Military Hospital and told nothing more could be done for him. He drowned himself in the Yarra an hour later. Another Viet veteran suicide not recorded? The death certificate was in the inquest file. The death could not be recorded without the certificate. The certificate could not be removed from the file to be taken to the Registrar. A photocopy of the certificate was not sufficient evidence for the Registrar. The suggestion was that the family might be able to get a legal injunction to allow a solicitor to take a "certified copy" which might be acceptable by the Registrar. They were too poor to even consider court+ lawyer, so the poor man's death is unrecorded. It was a very unsatisfactory result both for me and the children who were my pro bono clients at the time. Hello Chris, In VPRS 259/p01 Supreme Court Equity Case Files Unit 104 case 1088 I found a scrap.. the actual case files are missing (best to call up the unit and go through the numbered case files to find this scrap between 1087 and 1089... it may be that the storeroom staff might find difficulty in locating it as "a file") The gist of it was, according to my notes: Isaac Henry Dark (infant) versus Edwin and Ann Alice Dark... young Isaac seeks to make his uncle(?) now husband of his mother (?) mortgage the real estate ( deceased father was in partnership in land with his brother Edwin?) in order to obtain money for his education and advancement in life . Year 1868. In those days young Isaac would have been heir-at-law to his father's estate. The parts in parenthesis are from memory, of reading about 20 years years ago, and could be flawed! Debra No 527, 1885, Heart Disease. No more info. Regards Margaret
The C.D. is only an Index. It says Heart Disease, 1885. St. Kilda. Apparently the death was not registered with the Registrar General. Therefore no Death Certificate. This sometimes happened with an Inquest as the Coroner or Magistrate didn't complete the paperwork.
