Long Gully is a suburb of Bendigo just in case that hasn't been worked out yet...and very much an old mining area of the past.Pauline.
Hi listers. The Genealogical Society of Victoria has a free search feature on their website and on it I found several references to a record of two of my ancestors. The "type of records" were "Criminal Record" and "Gazetted". To find what information they contain, it seems, I would have to pay a joining fee of $15.00 and an annual subscription of $69.00 and then go to their rooms in Melbourne to view the records. As I cannot afford these fees and I live about 200 kms from Melbourne, I am wondering if there is some other means of accessing these particular records? The search results as given on the GSV website are as follows - AH CUE, Victoria Criminal records 1850-1900 Born: 1837 AH CUE, SARAH. Victoria Criminal records 1855-1918 CUE, Ah. Wangaratta Gazetted 20/06/1879 I believe these to be of my gggrandfather Ah CUE, a market gardener of Wangaratta, and his wife Sarah Hannah (Doncaster) CUE. Does anybody have any advice on this subject, that might assist me please? Thanks, Barry Howard, Victoria, Australia.

Hello Barry, I have had a look at the GSV website, but cannot see how to get any free search facility. Would you be kind enough to explain the way to search a name free? Do I have to buy membership? In 1914, she's at Kooyong, sub-district Glenferrie - 140 Burwood Rd Hawthorn, hd There are Florence Jane Burns, also hd and Thomas Edward Burns, a contractor at the same address. That's the only time a person with that full name appears on the electoral rolls. There's a Margaret Annie Burns in Camberwell in 1903 and a number of Annie Burns, Annie May Burns or Catherine Burns around Kooyong. In 1919 there's a ANNIE MARGARET CATHERINE CURLEY at the same address together with a Martin Curley, who's listed as a sawyer. This is also interesting because when I first read the posting I thought about St Just Point at Bendigo where many of the early Cornish miners settled hence the name St Just Point. Hello Alan, I had a search on behalf of a family many years ago, where in the late 1850s the mother was always the informant on birth certificates until she became ill when they moved to the country, and the fourth child was born and died, and the father took over as informant. She had always listed him as "William from Edinburgh" He gave himself "Wilhelm from Nova Scotia" which opened up a new successful avenue of research for the lass who had claimed a "brick wall". Though at first she was sceptical, because the parents moved back to the city a few years later and the mother again took the role of informant, with her "William from Edinburgh" for their sixth child and he went back to his previous trade after a stint as "a farmer". The Victorian stipulation that "Previous issue both alive and dead" should be entered on the certificates clinched the authenticity of my contention to them, and the Nova Scotia link was explored by them. So, sometimes, it's worth spending the money!! Regards Ada margaret trewick wrote: > Alan > I checked all I had and found nothing for you either.
