I am seeking knowledge of descendants of Bertram OSWALD,(b. 1900 at Tocumwal, NSW). who married Frances Violet (nee WRIGHT) in June 1925 at Hobart, Tasmania. His sister was born in 1902, at Chiltern, Victoria. Bertram's Parents were farm workers. Bertram and Frances had several children, of which 3 are known to have died. All in Victoria, (Melbourne). Australia. This man is one of my 'brick walls'. He is deceased. Hoping for some 'news'. Sorry everyone. It would help if I gave you the correct website address: http://www.ozgenonline.com/~riacaroline/ Sincere apologies, Ria.
Dear All I am writing to advise you of some new things on the Headstones from Cemeteries of Tasmania website. 1. The website has been moved, and is now a part of the Ozgenonline team. The new address is: http://ozgenonline.com/~riacaroline/ and cemeteries that have been posted thereon are also available via the Australian Cemeteries website on: http://www.australiancemeteries.com/ 2. I have made some structural changes to the website. Now on the home page you will see an index with two options: a cemetery index and an index to miscellaneous items such as memorials, etc. One of the memorials of particular interest to those interested in genealogy may be the Campbelltown pavement stones inscribed with the details of convicts transported from North America. 3. I have, over time, been adding to the Oatlands Anglican Cemetery (southern Midlands), and will continue with this, as I will for Longford Anglican Cemetery. 4. I have added another cemetery, Margate (All Saints Anglican) Cemetery. Margate is situated south of Hobart, after Kingston and before Snug. 5. I have added a number of new headstones to the Westbury (Catholic) Pioneer Cemetery site, and will be continuing with this over the next day or so. With regards, Ria Kotynia.
Maybe they moved on, cannot find any children b NSW which Port Phillip was part of back then. No shipping records that I can see. Maybe Try New Zealand or the states, maybe they were not sure where they were going, I have heard that before. carmel -----Original Message----- From: aus-melbourne-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-melbourne-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of K Steward Sent: Friday, 5 February, 2010 5:33 PM To: AUS-MELBOURNE@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-MELBOURNE] Reginald MEEHAN Port Phillip (Melbourne area)before 1844 ?? Seeking info on Reginald MEEHAN, who is believed to have been in Port Phillip before June 1844. When my gr-gr-grandmother, Catherine HINCHEYcame from Limerick Ireland to Sydney in 1844 as an assisted passenger on the bounty ship, Royal Saxon, her documents indicated that she already had a relative in the Colony: "a sister married to Reginald MEEHAN, gone to Port Phillip". I've been told that this kind of entry usually meant that they had arrived as a married couple but I have no idea which of Catherine HINCHEY's sisters this Reginald MEEHAN had married (she had at least 3 sisters- Bridget (b. 1825); Hanora (b.1828); Margaret (b. 1831)). I have info to share about parents/descendents of Catherine Hinchy if anyone has a connection. This "mystery MEEHAN" has been a brick wall for me for years - I've not been able to find any trace of him/them anywhere in Australia (or back in Ireland for that matter) but perhaps with more data and more "genies" online now, I'm really hoping for a breakthrough. Kaye Are you sure it doesn't say "a married sister" and then in the disposal column say Gone to Reginald Meehan Port Phillip?" Where did you get the detail from, as the shipping list doesn't have disposal(just viewed it) Margaret

Thanks, I can't see them on the website; maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? However, I'm pretty sure mine are all buried at Melb General; I visited the grave and photographed it in the late 80's pre digital days and it is hard to read as it was a bright day and the carved letters didn't show up very well. But transcribed it on the spot so I know what is meant to be there.
