Do I need something that proves who I am or my aboriginality to do this Thanks Mate Appreciate Your Time & Effort Too Veronica K ----- Original Message ----- From: Dow, Coral (DPL) To: AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, May 21, 2001 2:21 AM Subject: RE: [AUS-Koori] Grant Family Dawn and New dawn are held by the AIATSIS library. Individuals are indexed and can be accessed through the biographical index on the MURA catalogue of the AIATSIS site at www.aiatsis.gov.au. The entry will give the volume, issue and page number making inter-linbrary loan requests easier. -----Original Message----- From: Don Clark [mailto:turandot@one.net.au] Sent: Monday, 21 May 2001 3:40 PM To: AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [AUS-Koori] Grant Family Hi, I called the State Library - I had made the mistake, as I often do of getting the Sydney and State Libraries mixed up in my message to you - and they inform me that: No, the New Dawn is not on line at this time. They do have microfiche versions of it though and there may have been other copies made of this - they suggest that the Queensland State Library has copies although they do not believe it is a full set. 1 The particular copy you are looking for is called "Dawn", not "New Dawn", it appears there was a name change somewhere along the way. 2 Due to copyright laws they do not release full copies of any newspaper to anyone 3 However, you can request a particular article (I would try for a few myself) 4 A request for a copy of an article can be made from any library in Australia (there is a small charge) 5 The National Library in Canberra may have a full set of Dawn and they have the right to copy a full newspaper as long as it is requested and is for research 6 Approaching the nearest Australian Consul may be of benefit Hope all this helps Don ----- Original Message ----- From: "Veronica" <koalaty@solve.net> To: <AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 18, 2001 1:58 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-Koori] Grant Family > Thanks for the info - Do you think I can access that online since I live in USA > and my family now lives up Qld way. > Thanks > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Don Clark > To: AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Thursday, May 17, 2001 9:48 PM > Subject: Re: [AUS-Koori] Grant Family > > > Sydney library has a complete set of the New Dawn. Nothing needed as far as I know. There is a lot of research being done on some of these. I am studying for a degree with other Aboriginal people at UTS (Sydney). We visited the Library at one time and were shown how to research for our own material. Other students remarked that it was a common practice for people to get their photos in Dawn so that their relatives in other places would know that they were all right and also just to let them know that they were still alive. This was due to the forced migration of Aboriginal people from their tribal lands.
