    2. Trying to find out anything about an Ellen SPROULE supposedly born about 1865 in Brewarrina. She was raised by two women named McCue, McHugh who may have worked on a Wool Scour Facility on one of the stations between Bourke and Brewarrina. Can anyone help with where I would write to in NSW to get any details on her as she is not recorded in the NSW BDM online records. 3. Hi there Ivan, Great to hear from you! Thank you for starting up this list a couple of years ago, I'm sure that everyone will get something good from it and all your hard work. Your web page has some great links on it, thank you for sharing with us. What state are you in? Cheers, Robynne Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: Ivan Sanders To: AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2002 9:56 AM Subject: [AUS-Koori] RE: Koori List Hi there Robynne, You have caught me at an opportune time – I have been out of contact for a couple of weeks and will be away again as of tomorrow morning. Do I object to what you are doing with my list?? I guess the obvious answer (which you might even expect), is that it’s not my list – I certainly started it, out of a perceived lack of support for indigenous Australians on Rootsweb.[ It is a list for everyone who shares an interest in indigenous australian’s history. The list was started a couple of years ago, and was met with some success but a couple of attempts to work things up ended up with pretty quiet results. I don’t have a problem with that, in fact I am more than happy that I have had something to do with setting up the facility – if the time is not right, the list is quiet, at other times, the list picks up – most of the time it is quiet, but at the end of the day it is there when needed and has a couple of hundred subscribers. Please feel free to generate discussion – I appreciate everyone’s efforts and contributions. The only thing that I insist on is that it is either family history orientated or positive in its discussion – I have some flexibility, but I will not see the list degenerate as others have when they get out of control with negative contributions.; Personally, I am not indigenous, but have a great interest in the life and times of our great countries original (and current) inhabitants. My interest is in my wife’s side – her sixth great grandfather was Mannalargenna who was the last full blood chief in Tasmania. If you want to find out more on my side, follow the link at the bottom of this email. 3. Hi Christine. Last year I participated in a weekend field trip around the ACT and the Lake George area. Because of the official definition of Aborigine at the end of the 1800s didn't include anyone of mixed descent, ancestry became quickly hidden. Consider looking up historical records to do with the Lake George area, Lanyon, Queanbeyan, Bungendore, Namadgi, Lake Bathurst and Ngunnawal. Regards, Beth

    3. I am researching Mary Ann Mills who was born at Goulburn about 1836. Mary Ann maried John Willoughby on the 30th October 1854 at Braidwood. Her parents were listed as John Mills and Mary Ann. She was baptised on the 21st July 1853 at Araluen, her parents were listed as John Mills and a Native Black. We would love to find out more information about our aboriginal ancestors. 3. Hi every one, I posted my interests the other day but I'd like to ask for a bit of advice. You see my Grandmother was supposed to be of aboriginal decent. But because my father was adopted he lost touch with his mothers people. She died as a complication of child birth when he was 18 days old and to tell you the truth I think my grandfather blamed him for her death. We managed to find all his living relatives on his fathers side before the government even confirmed he was adopted. But we've had no luck with his mothers family. I have found his grandmother's marriage and his mother's death and marriage but my problem is that I can't find her birth. I think she may have changed her name , she gave it as Dorothy May CORRIGAN when she married my grandfather Gordon Eric Francis DUNBAR in 1927 at Richmond Qld. She would have been born 1909-1910. Now I have found a Dolly Baitman CORRIGAN born 1909 to a Ellen ELLIS, no father listed. So I'm almost 100% sure this is my grandmother but I'm looking for any thing to prove this. I've tried all the government branches but now one seems to have any info at all on the family. My great grandmothers name was Elisabeth Ellis and she was born at Paddington Blocks NSW c 1881. I think my grandmother had 3 of 4 sisters Alice, Ann and Julia but this info comes from my fathers sister who was 3 when her mother died. I can't find births for the sisters, I did find a brother Peter who died young. They may have been born after 1919?? The only other place I thought I could try was the electrol roll but I'm not sure at what date aboriginal became eligible to vote. Any help would be most appreciated.

Cannot find birth cert for Albert, Albert MAry or HArriett. Any suggestions welcome. 3. Hello Hazel Some useful starting points for Aboriginal History in Queensland: http://www.faira.org.au/ - Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research Action The State Library of Queensland has an Indigenous Resource Unit: http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/jol/iru/famhistory.htm - Aboriginal Family History homepage - links, indexes, including the Tindale Genealogy (Tindale recorded details of Aboriginal people and their family histories at the various missions around Australia, including those in Queensland.) http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/publib/footprints/footprints.htm 'Footprints before me' is a family history site coordinated by State Library of Queensland, Indigenous Resource Unit. Do you have a particular area/group that you are connected to? This may help with your research, especially in terms of protocols, lore, etc. I have connections to South West Queensland and have some information. Some generic information regarding protocols can be found at: http://www.abc.net.au/message/ - The ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) has an Indigenous Online web site with lots of useful general information including a section on protocols (http://www.abc.net.au/message/proper/default.htm). In relation to protocols for Queensland, the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy may be a useful starting point - they have produced 2 booklets on socio-cultural and communication protocols for Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders - www.indigenous.qld.gov.au Hope this information is of assistance. 3. Hi Beth, What a great idea! Ok everyone, listen up. If you are researching or wanting to find information on anything to do with the letter "A" send away. Let's see if we can all help each other out with our shared resources this year. Also, spread the word to family and friends who have or need knowledge on Aboriginal heritage. For information on joining this list go to: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-KOORI.html Cheers, Robynne in cold, wet Melbourne ----- Original Message ----- From: craddy To: AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2002 11:57 AM Subject: [AUS-Koori] Canberra Calling BlankLet's see if we can generate some productive discussion. It seems that not a lot of people know about this site. We need people who know their ancestry to join in because they're the ones who will be most likely able to help us. Robynne, I'm an English teacher at Dickson College which is a senior secondary government school. I wonder if we can make some productive links? I'm involved in student welfare and improving outcomes for indigenous students. Why don't we begin with the letter A for both places and people. For example, you might be looking for Jane Adams or connections with Armidale. See ya.
