Hello Robyn It may be worthwhile contacting Aunty Irene Ryder or Lynette Nixon at Nalingu Aboriginal Corporation at Mitchell (Phone (07) 4623 1423 - 31 Cambridge Street, Mitchell 4465) - they have family histories and other information relating to Aboriginal families in the Mitchell area (only 95-100 kms away from Roma). Scattery Plains was probably a property - you may need to check pastoral records/maps of the time as it may have changed ownership and names. Regards, Des. my mob's from dainggati country and they were moved to wonnarua country by the government in 1921 when my mother's family was split up. Well before that my maternal gg grandfather, John Walsh, freed in 1836, married Mary Lennaghan (Lehahan, Lennahan, Linahan, and Lincham and spelt six other different ways) in 1837. Asking for info on Mary, may have been with the Dharug people as John was consigned to John Warby of Airds in 1829. She may have also been from the "Sydney Five Tribes" as they were then called. thanks Kim O _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
Yes, she's the same person. The original film is called 'Eye of the Storm'. At the end of it they visit those same children as adults (I think it's around 1981) and get their thoughts on how the exercise changed their lives. What a woman! Regards Jo
According to a friend of mine who participated in the session on which Australian Eye is based - many Kooris also participated in the session. Cheers Lynn
If this is the same woman I saw on Oprah a few years ago, she is very interesting, and her method of getting the message accross is excellent. G'day Judith, A point of etiquette, say your grandfather is of Aboriginal descent otherwise you will know doubt get the question, which quarter. Koories find the grading of a person's Aboriginality offending. Nobody asks you if your quarter Scottish, Irish, Italian or what ever.
