Hi everyone This letter is to say thank you to everyone of you and there have been lots of you who have been so kind in helping me to locate my husbands relations named Sixsmith. We have had a reply from one of them and as we have also had photos sent through and the man looks remarkably like my husband we are sure that this family are the ones that we are looking for. At the moment we are swapping histories and photos etc., and as everything seems to be linking up, we are looking forward to a very long family association. I want to thank everyone of you once again, we could not have done it without you. Best wishes to you all in your own researches June.
Hi everyone, Once again I apologise for making this a blanket search but it is the only way that I can possibly cover all of the areas that I need. I have so far thanks to the kindness of the Australian people found out that Percy Spooner married Agnes Mooney in 1913. But there is also a Percy Spooner who married in 1935 a ANNIE SHARKEY. I know that the Percy who married Agnes is certainly the one I need but I am interested in knowing who the Percy was who married Annie Sharkey in 1935 all of this is in NSW Percy and Agnes had a daughter named Jessie who married a Joseph SIXSMITH in 1935. Is anyone researching this name, if so I would appreciate it if you would please contact me. My best wishes to you all June.
Hi everyone, I hope that you can forgive me for doing a blanket search, only I do not know which part of Australia PERCY SPOONER went to so I felt it best to try to cover as much ground as possible. My name is June Spooner and I am researching the name of the man above. Percy was born in approx., 1883-5 in Nottingham, England, He was born in the Edwin St., St. Ann's Well Road area and his parents were. George Spooner and Fanny Ward. Unfortunately, after leaving England for Australia, nothing much was ever heard from Percy and so contact was lost. If anyone has any information on him I would be most obliged if you would contact me. My best wishes to you all over there in the warm weather >From June in a very cold and snowy Ontario.
Hi KimLai What have you tried? Have you looked in electoral rolls? Have you checked the death index for that state. I found my grandmother whom my mother hadn't seen in 30 years through the telephone book!!! It was that easy. Have you tried any of these?? kindest regards Sam -----Original Message----- From: KimLai Bell <kimlaibell@yahoo.com> To: AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com <AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, 28 February 2001 1:32 Subject: [AUS-Koori] Birds. >G'day, everyone. >My name is Kim and I'm searching for my indigenous >family. Hi, I am new to this list and would like to post my first question. My gggrandmother was Elizabeth Dawson born in Busselton WA to George Dawson and mother unknown. We think she was born around 1850. Her marriage certificate call her Betsy the half cast [they were very rude back then]. So what i am wondering is how can i find her mother and where her family came from. Hopefully someone can help as she is a bit of a mystery. Thankyou Sally Kingdon Western Australia
Hi, Can anyone tell me if there ever was an Aboriginal settlement in the Karuah, N.S.W. area--or how I can get that information ? Good to see that the list is more active--maybe some of us will be able to find the links that will solve " our jig-saw puzzles ". Gwen
I would like to find any information on my ggggrandmother in the Port Macquarie /Yarras/Walcha district. My tree goes Thomas RAE had Jessie RAE no mother on Birth Cert. Jessie RAE bore a child to Henry Sutton (on the child's baptism record the mother's name was TAPPY 1/2 caste Port Macquarie. Jessie married Patrick Donohoe and they ended up settling in WALCHA. I can trace Thomas, Jessie,Henry Sutton and Patrick but I cannot get any information on Tappy who I think was Jessie's mum or Jessie's aboriginal name. I would love help...please Karen Bulli NSW kpayne@fishinternet.com.au RAE, ROPER, DONOHOE,O'BRIEN, PURCELL, CHICK,FRENCH, CLARKE, PRIOR, COOPER, KEEVERS
Thanks Cheryl, what you said makes sense especially in Walcha where my people were raised. Even now the place has its own 'code of conduct'. I feel sad in my heart that people had to pretend and couldn't be who they wanted to be. Cheryl where is the Darug people from and how did you learn that's where you were from? I hope you don't mind me asking. We, (Aboriginal people) have been taught to feel shame about who we are, this was part of our destruction as a People. I have written before about the policies being enforce on our people to assimilate us with the view to us becoming 'white'. Fair kids were taken from their families as we know through the stolen generations. Those folks who were able to hid or assimilate into the white society told lies and kept secrets so that their kids would not be taken. They could not afford to tell the next generation the truth about themselves, their culture or their history, they were terrified. > Look at Sally Morgan's novel My Place, Sally grew up believing her family was from India. Hello Sam and everyone I would say the Mary Anne you found is most likely your Mary Anne. Now a good way to confirm this is by getting both the Marriage cert and Death cert for her. Marriage certs are a very good source of information (usually) as it is a happy event and all the participants have the information fresh; parents names occupations place of birth etc are shown. As with the death cert, however the information is sometimes not as reliable. The informant can sometimes not have all the correct information about the person. You can order the certificates for Victoria from the net. I'm not sure of the address but I think you look up Vic Gov. site. If you have trouble let me know and I'll do a search. Also its cheaper if you have the registration no. of the event. I hope this of some help to you Cheryl ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sam Beattie" <russam@bigpond.com> To: <AUS-KOORI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, 22 January 2001 1:38 Subject: [AUS-Koori] who I am > Dear Lisa, Marilyn and list > > I am on this list because I feel the need to identify my Aboriginal > heritage.
