Hi Charmaine Very little is known of Mary MELIA, certainly even less is known of her arrival in the colony. The first record of her is at the birth of her second child, Bedelia, known as Delia. I t is believed that she arrived with Thomas McGUIRE and that their first child was born enroute. It is recorded that she was one of the first free white women in the settlement of Moreton Bay. She was also from Ireland. It is an unusual christian name and we have 3 of them in our line. What do you know of her mother's origins? As well, 2 of the Bedelia's we have also have sisters named Mary. Charmaine I would be interested in hearing from anyone with connection to: > > Thomas McGUIRE, born c 1823 Kilglass, Ireland > married Mary MELIA (1820-1899) > > The two counties of Roscommon and Longford both contain parishes named > Kilglass. > Nothing is known of his life until 16 Aug 1839 when he joined the 99th > Regiment while it was stationed in Ireland at Kilkenny & Dublin. > (The 99th Regiment wore red uniforms with yellow lapels - Red-coats). > Regimental # 1261.
