Hello to everyone... Can someone please help me... I used to subscribe to this list and have just rejoined and I am trying to find out about the Potato Famine Orphans. I am wanting to find out if Annie HALL or Annie FREANY (not sure of spelling) were among those who came out as orphans during this time. I have already checked a couple of websites but as their list is incomplete I would really appreciate anyone who may be able to help me out... Thanks so much Liza
Liza There is a memorial to all the famine orphans at the Hyde Park Barracks which contains all the names of those famine orphans who came to Aus.. Sadly some names have faded with the elements although the monument is only a couple of years old... Do you have a year in which your Annie arrived? There are several publications and a large group of famine descendants who meet at the Hyde Park Barracks on an irregular basis for various functions.. There is a publication called Clann an Ghorta which is devoted to the Irish famine orphans and their descendants who contribute to the publication from time to time... It may be worth the time to contact the co-ordinator of the magazine .. and place an ad for descendants of your Annie..
