Searching for ancestry of John Kenny, soldier, "full age" when he married Honora Shanahan (aged 19) at R.C. Chapel of Fermoy, Co. Cork on 16.7.1879, witnesses R. Dickenson and Ellen Greene. John's father was Thomas Kenny, tradesman, while hers was Patrick Shanahan, labourer. They lived at Fermoy barracks and had a daughter, Mary Ellen, on 8.8.1880, and a son Michael, in 1882. Mary Ellen (my grandmother) came alone (we presume) to Australia in 1901 and married a NZer, Robert Paine Thompson in 1906. They had three children, Norah (my mother) John and Alexander. She died in 1916 after Alex's birth. Any connections out there? It would help if I knew John Kenny's regiment no doubt, but I don't. Is there any way to find this out without having to call an (expensive) professional researcher in? Any ideas welcome. Thanks, Leith
