    3. This is my first mail to this list so Hullo everyone! I have Irish Orphans Bridget and Ellen LEHENY, arr Sydney, 1850, Tippoo Saib. I have info on their Aus lives though not for the first couple of years except that family legend says they went into service on arrival. Same family legend has it that their father, Thomas LEHENY (also any spelling sounding anything like that!), worked on the estate of Lady McNAMARA. She used her influence to get the girls to Aus under the particular scheme now dubbed Irish Orphans by Aus historian. They were variously said to come from Co Sligo/Co Leitrim IRL. Shipping record gives native place as Drumshanbo Co Leitrim. I have been unable to establish where Drumshanbo is in Co Leitrim. .Here are family details f Thomas LEHENY, dcd before they emigrated m Ellen MULVY, still living Carrick-on-Shannon when they emigrated ch a girl already dead from fever before they emigrated a brother Timothy, emigrated to USA Bridget aka Elizabeth/Eliza, b c 1833 Co Leitrim, IRL, d 1925, Little Sisters of the Poor Home Randwick, m 1852, John LEDWIDGE, St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, RC, later m? William STEWART, two ch, Caroline and John (no registrations for this m or births found) Ellen aka Catherine, b c 1835 Co Leitrim, IRL, d 1890, Albion St, Sydney, m 1853, James O'HEIR (various spellings), St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, RC, two ch Margaret and John Sorry to be a bit long winded but would love to know if anyone is researching this family. Also if anyone had any idea how I could confirm the story about Lady McNamara. For instance are there any Irish records of these girls emigrating. Any info appreciated, TIA, Alice.
