Here is another that I have not spent much time researching yet - too busy with my Doon MADDEN's. <g> Henry MALLYON arrived from Essex in 1874, and he married this Irish lass, supposedly straight from the boat. If so, then Mary arrived in 1877 and he took her straight out to Springsure to be married (or did she travel to Springsure to meet him?). Grandchildren tell the story of the Irish Catholic and English Protestant who could not marry in England so Henry came ahead to prepare the way for his Irish love. Of course, there is no evidence that these two even knew each other in the 'old country' but that does not stop the family folklore!! Mary Jane DAVISON Born: 1852 County Dury, Ireland {{Co. Dury - no such place.- is it likely to be Co.Down.}} Married: 20 April 1877 Springsure, Qld, - Henry MALLYON; Died: 1919 Springsure, Qld, Aust Father: Alexander DAVISON Mother: Jane ?? I do know that they had two sons, one of whom was my ggrandfather and he married Elizabeth MADDEN (my ggrandmother), and I know 'most' of their descendants. <g> Would be interested in hearing from anyone who may have a connection. Hi These two present a little bit of a brick wall, which I have not dedicated the time to break through. Thomas MCGUIRE arrived in Moreton Bay with a wife and child (my ancestor), and therefore, it is 'assumed' that they married in Ireland before departure as his wife travelled with him and the child was born enroute. Thomas MCGUIRE Born: 1823 Kilglass, Ireland The two counties of Roscommon and Longford both contain parishes named Kilglass. Nothing is known of his life until 16 Aug 1839 when he joined the 99th Regiment while it was stationed in Ireland at Kilkenny & Dublin. November 1841 - regiment commenced the process of transfer to NSW by moving to Clapham to await embarkation on the "JOHN BREWER" which departed Sheerness in December 1841 and arrived Moreton Bay in May 1842. Served as an ordinary soldier until 31 July 1844 when he purchased his discharge for 20 English pounds ($40). In Government emplyment from 1844 until 1848, possibly at Woogooroo where 2nd daughter born in 1847 whilst living in Grey Street, South Brisbane. 1 May 1848 - Monday - sworn in to act as a Mounted Police Constable, of the Moreton Bay Police, for the town of Brisbane. Died: 11 January 1853 Woodford, Qld, Aust - north of Pine River - en route to Durandur Station (near Woodford) to execute a warrant. He was buried in a lone grave where he met his death, on the road between present day Wamuran and Woodford. Dear Listers, Does any one visit a library that holds the microfiche of this Index ? If so, would you be so kind as to check on the surname IRVINE or IRVING, first name Edward or Michael, arrived early to mid 1840's. Possiblly with a wife, Mary (nee O'Brien) and a young daughter, Elizabeth born c.1845. Elizabeth IRVINE had always said she was born at "Kiama", but after a 30 year search have not found any record. It is possible that the family arrived when Elizabeth was a young child who grew up in the Kiama/Wollongong area believing she was born there. A check of the Reid Index would assist. Thank you Regards, Carole

Hello Can anyone advise me on where I can look for information on my Irish 3xgreat grandmothers. Eliza DUNDON was from Limerick, born about 1833. She was married Henry STEPHENS in Beachworth, Victoria 24 Jan 1858. Margaret CLARK(E) from County Cavin(?), born around 1829 - 1834. She married William George NORTON 16 February 1854 in Sofala, NSW. I have found nothing regarding either of these ladies prior to their respective marriages. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Vaeda
ANZAC Day, 25th April 2003. Today, we in Australia and New Zealand, pause and remember the sacrifices made to keep our great countries free and today we give thanks for their sacrifices. Some did not come home, and most of those who did come home, brought back horrific memories, that no person should ever have to go through. Our thoughts and hearts go out the our men and women facing conflict today as well and we pray you will return home safely................................ They shall not grow old, As we who are left grow old; Age shall not weary them Nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun, And in the morning, We shall remember them! Jim, List Dad

Thanks, Bernice. Another lister has suggested I do not rule out 1873 as information on death certificates is notoriously wrong. I would, indeed, appreciate any help you can give. Des.
We are researching our great grand mothers family Brazil. She was Mary Brazil who married William Allen of Stanthorpe. Two of her brothers Martin and Denis BRAZIL married two sisters Hanoria and Bridget O'Brien in the 1880's. Their parents were John and Mary (Curtis) O'Brien and lived in Toowoomba. The other brother Anthony Brazil married Ellen daughter of Thomas Walsh and Julia Barrigree. Thanks
