The following is an extract from the paper by Ms Jennifer Harrison "From King's County to "Quinnsland" - "Nearer home [Brisbane] can be seen another worthy specimen of an Irishman who frequently takes his seat beside the stipendiary magistrates in Brisbane, honourable and independently differing in opinion from them occasionally. This is Mr William Tracey, a native of Kings County, and one of the passengers by the Erin-go-bragh in 1862". William, born about 1838 in Coole, Crogan, Lower Philipstown, Ballyburly, Edenderry, Kings County, was the son of Michael Tracey and Marcella Dunne. He married Mary Kelly in Ireland and she was born about 1840. As far as I can ascertain, they had seven children - 4 sons and 3 daughters - born in Queensland, Australia, between 1867 and 1882. There are also Catherine and Maria Tracey on board that ship. They were born about 1838 and 1842 respectively. Nothing is known about these two ladies. Can anyone help with these folk please? Many thanks Bev
Thank you very much, Patricia. Des.
James I visited my FHCN today and spoke to the coordinator re "Sunda".. He suggested you could try the following: 1. Shipping Intelligence Columns - Courier Mail for 1865 2. Maritime Museum Listings in Brisbane It may turn up some information for you.. Good Luck in your search Patricia McGill
PLEASE UNSUBCRIBE ME
Thanks Bernice. I was in touch with the State Library yesterday, but you would not read about it, they have traced the arrival of the ship, but there was no record of the passengers kept. I have now sent away for a copy of the death certificate of John Francis Smith in 1906 and hope that all his children will be listed on the certificate. Thanks for trying. Des.
James, I went to our library today and their reader is on the blink and not expected to be fixed in the near future. Sorry!!! I will keep you in mind when it is fixed if no one else does a lookup for you Bernice Thomson -----Original Message----- From: James Desmond Skelly [mailto:deskelly@optusnet.com.au] Sent: Wednesday, 14 May 2003 10:21 AM To: AUS-IRISH-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-IRISH] SHIP "SUNDA' ARRIVED BRISBANE 23 MARCH 1865 Is there a lister out there who has access to shipping records or is able to visit the State Library? A friend and I have been researching immigrants from Donegal, especially those who came out under the Donegal Relief Fund scheme, which assisted passengers to Sydney 1858 - 1862. The last three ships to come out under that scheme carried some passengers who were from families evicted from Derryveagh, Gartan, in 1861, by their landlord, Adair, to make way for his deer park/recreation activities - the total evicted were 244 persons. We are hoping to find people who can identify Derryveagh evictees in a list which I have online at my Donegal website. Attempts have been made in the past to identify these people, including two videos - 'The Echo of the Distant Drum' and the more recent 'Tragedy and Triumph, the Story of the Derryveagh Evictions', as well as articles and booklets published by May McClintock, An Taisce, and Dr Bernard Barrett. We would very much like to hear from anyone who can assist with this. Please visit the Derryveagh page at - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/billsderryveagh.htm The Donegal Relief Fund project is at - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegal/relief.htm I also have a list of Donegal immigrants arriving Sydney 1848-68, should anyone want me to check for Donegal immigrants, other than those from Derryveagh. Thankyou. Lindel Kaikoura, New Zealand

I am trying to determine the most common australian surnames (not the most "searched" surnames). Can anyone point me in the right direction, hopefully to a web source? Thanks D
Thanks Bernice. I had a record of those births. Elizabeth Jane is a Marine birth - she must have been born on the voyage. There are a couple of other girls that other helpful people on the Net could not trace birth records, so I presumed they must have come out with their parents in 1865. That is why I'm after a passenger list. Regards, Des.
James, I have not been into town yet but I have the Pioneer Index for Qld. I ran thru John Smith and Catherine Fox and the following children came up Elizabeth Jane born 31/3/1865 John Micael born 31/10/1869 Helena born 4/10/1872 Hope this is a help, Will check out the other children when I can. Hi folks, In case anyone out there has lost some people from GALWAY, you might like to know that the first instalment of the GALWAY EMIGRANT INDEX is now online at : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maddenps/GALWAYEM.htm There are nearly 800 people in it, who emigrated from Galway to NSW, Australia between the years 1828 and 1842. It can be searched by NAME,PLACE,Mother's maiden name, etc. At present,I have no more data, but the index will grow as I get the time to check through more films. I hope to eventually take it to 1865. Hoping it helps someone, Peter.
