    1. [AUS-IRISH] KEARNEY (Limerick), O'BRIEN (Limerick) & McGUIRK (Cavan)
    2. Margaret Szalay
    3. I am researching the KEARNEY name from Limerick - town: Abington. My ancestor, John Martin KEARNEY was born in c.1808 in Abington, and married Honorah LYONS in Abington c.1829. He was a stonemason by profession/trade. In 1863, the family immigrated to Queensland in Australia, some of the children coming with their parents, some coming later, some with their own wives and children. The children were all born in Abington, Limerick. They were: 1. Martin John Kearney B. 1833 D. 1864 at sea en route to Australia. 2. Michael Kearney B. 1836 D. 1863 in Ireland while preparing to come. 3. William Kearney B. 1838 D. 1875 in Queensland. 4. Thomas Kearney B. 1841 D. 1880 in Queensland (married with 6 chn) 5. Mary Catherine Kearney B. 1846 D. 1903 in Qld (married with 5 chn) 6. James Kearney B. c.1848 D. 1874 in Qld 7. Bridget Mary Kearney B. 1851 D. 1938 in Qld (married with 8 chn) I have often wondered how great an influence the Potato famine of 1848 had on the family's decision to immigrate 15 years later. It is obvious that their children did not enjoy good health with the majority dying young. I am descended from the first son, Martin John. His widow, Bridget O'BRIEN from Limerick, arrived in Queensland in 1864 with two children, Mary and John Francis. A baby had also died on the voyage out. My G. grandparents, John Francis Kearney (1860-1899)(their son) and Lillian Cecilia McGuirk (1863-1904) from Cavan, Co. Cavan, were married in Queensland in 1883; they had 4 children, only one of whom produced grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margaret Szalay mszalay@bigpond.net.au

    1. [AUS-IRISH] HARRISON (Kildare) & WOOD (Louth)
    2. Margaret Szalay
    3. I am seeking contact with other descendants to share information on Henry Francis Hans HARRISON (Born Co. Kildare 1818, died in NSW in July 1863) and his wife, Marrion Grace WOOD (born 1826? in Co. Louth, died 1888 in Manly, Sydney) - they married in Dublin in approx. 1847. Henry was the son of the Rev. John Issac Harrison, of the Parish of Naas, Co. Kildare and his wife Christian NELAN. Marrion's parents were Robert WOOD, a farmer near Dundalk, and his wife Grace FERGUSON. They appear to have come to Australia after 1849, possibly arriving on the "Dublin" in 1851 with a child 1. Henrietta Georgeina HARRISON, born 1849 in Dundalk Co. Louth, who married William Joseph Garnet BURGESS in 1865 in Sydney. (Lost track of Henrietta - her husband remarried in 1875, but no evidence of her death) Later surviving children known to be born in NSW were - 2. Francis James HARRISON, born 1855, died 1930 (married 1878, had 9 children?); 3. Robert J HARRISON, born 1857, died 1909 (married 1882, had 7 children?); 4. Thomas Isaac HARRISON, born 1859, died 1891? (no confirmed marriages or death) 5. Marrion Grace Elizabeth HARRISON, born 1861, died 1944 - married Benjamin JONES in 1881 (12 children); 6. Rebecca Mary Jane HARRISON, born 1861 (twin) (marriage to Charles SHERINGHAM in 1883 not confirmed 1 known child), and 7. Ann Alexandra (Annie) HARRISON born 1863, died 1938, married Francis William HEATON, postmaster at Balgowlah in 1882 (5 children). I have no confirmed shipping information on the individual's or family's arrival in Australia in the 1850s. Henry drowned in the wreck of the "Regent Bird" on a trip from Macleay River (Kempsey) to Sydney in July 1863 (just before Ann's birth). Marrion remarried as a widow in 1866 to John AIRD, a tailor. He died 1882, and Marrion lived with the Heatons in Manly/Balgowlah until her death in 1888. . Any descendants? - I would love to hear from you. Margaret Szalay mszalay@bigpond.net.au

    3. This message is for James: I saw your mention of HOUGH. Big Surprise My gr gr grandmother was Anne Hough, married to Daniel Reddan, date unknown. They had four children all baptised at Lorrha, Nenagh, County Tipperary, starting in 1840. Daniel, Patrick, Mary and John, my gr grandfather. I found a Daniel who died in Kyneton, Victoria in 1873, with parents named Daniel Reddan and Ann Hough. Have not found their marriage date. Records of Nenagh start in 1839. Daniel Reddan in Austraila left a Will naming a John Howe as his administrator. My gr grandfather John came to the USA about 1870 and married Sophia Maria Gallagher in Warm Springs, CA. Hope to hear from you or anyone else working on this line. Thank you Bev Enz

    1. [AUS-IRISH] BOYAN and HEVEY
    2. Dear List: I am still searching (unsuccessfully) for any record of my great grandparents William BOYAN (b. abt 1860 in Westmeath) and Gertrude Maria HEVEY (b. abt 1862 in Westmeath(?)). Their son, also William BOYAN was born on May 25, 1890. His birth was registered in Ballintlevy (spelled on the registration as Ballincleary), Registration District of Milltown. They came to Australia aboard the SS Cuzco at the end of 1890 and had 3 further children, Edward, Gertrude and Geraldine all around the Newtown area. I have written to the parish priest in Rochfortbridge requesting information, hopefully something will eventuate there. I know they must receive many requests. If anyone has any information, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Anita
