Liza has posted the following direct to me as List Admin..............I have subscribed her to the List, but if anybody has any suggestions and answers to her questions, please post them to the List so others can also learn answers and not direct back to me...........................Jim, List Dad Subject: Research query... Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 19:45:54 -0600 From: "lgs" <lgs@optusnet.com.au> To: "IRISH FAM. HIST. MAIL" <AUS-IRISH-L-request@rootsweb.com> Hello list... I am extremely new to this searching thing.... and I was wondering how do you go about finding out the actual information contained on a BDM certificate without actually ordering and paying for lots of certificates that could all possibly be the wrong ones. The problem I am having is that I have looked up the NSW BDM's on the internet and have come across a few possibilities but I am reluctant to spend so much money if the certificates end up not being for the right people I am searching. Is there someone who can look up this information for me or is there any way of finding out this information before purchasing the certificates. Thanks for your help Liza in sunny Caloundra :o)

    3. Searching for ancestry of John Kenny, soldier, "full age" when he married Honora Shanahan (aged 19) at R.C. Chapel of Fermoy, Co. Cork on 16.7.1879, witnesses R. Dickenson and Ellen Greene. John's father was Thomas Kenny, tradesman, while hers was Patrick Shanahan, labourer. They lived at Fermoy barracks and had a daughter, Mary Ellen, on 8.8.1880, and a son Michael, in 1882. Mary Ellen (my grandmother) came alone (we presume) to Australia in 1901 and married a NZer, Robert Paine Thompson in 1906. They had three children, Norah (my mother) John and Alexander. She died in 1916 after Alex's birth. Any connections out there? It would help if I knew John Kenny's regiment no doubt, but I don't. Is there any way to find this out without having to call an (expensive) professional researcher in? Any ideas welcome. Thanks, Leith

    3. Hi This is a 2 part message: Looking for connections to my HALLs in NSW & looking for connections to take me back further in Ireland. Oral family history states that my John Thomas HALL from Armagh had 7 cousins that came to NSW. John & his wife, Mary Jane HAMILTON & their children, William & Sarah, came in 1863 to Qld. Apparently John was the only son and had 4 sisters. Don't know if his cousins were HALLs or not. I know, it's a long shot, but that's all I have to go on. Further children were born to John Thomas HALL (son of John Hall) & Mary Jane (dau of Wm HAMILTON & ?Sarah) here in Qld: Margaret Jane Sarah Thomas Henry James Martin Mary Elizabeth John Thomas was married in 1858 and was living in Corlust , Ballymore, ARM at the time. John Thomas called his farm in Ipswich, Rickhill so I think there may have been some connection to Richhill in Armagh. Possible connections: 1. John HALL in Annaboe, Kilmore in Bassett's Directory of 1888; 2. 1870s Land holders :Wm HALL farm Richhill owned 69 acres; Thomas Hall, address Cloven Eden, Loughgall, owned 140 acres. Thomas HALL, address Tullyrane, Verner's Bridge, owned 151 acres. Regards Judy HALL

    3. Hi Bev, Not sure what info you require for William BREADY and Mary REDDEN ?? But a quick look revealed the following. The only child found William Shields BREADY, listed twice as born 1881, Ballarat, Vic. once with mother given as REDDEN and the other as REDDAN. That is a long while after their marriage, but although I found no death for this child, there is another William Shields BREADY born to them 1899. William Shields BREADY marr. Adeline Matilda Victoria KLINE, 1908 Geelong Vic. they had Cuthbert Shields BREADY 1908 Geelong Vic. 2 Deaths 1 your William the other his brother, going on the mothers name. BREADY James age 45 died 1882, Vic. BREADY William age 72 died 1907 Ballarat Vic. same parents for both. Father Patrick BREADY. Mother Mary Jane SHIELDS. Need any more just ask.
