Hello I am new to the list and am looking for information and descendants of the following Dunnes: Dennis Dunne - 1826-1832 - 1916 It is believed that Denis Dunne was born in Kilfinnane somewhere 1826-1832 (His death cert says he was born in Kilfannan, Limerick - suspect the spelling should have been Kilfinnane) Denis and his second wife Margaret Mowlan (Mowland, emigrated from Ireland on the "Rockcliff" which left Plymouth, England on the 11 April 1863 and arrived in Moreton Bay on 28 July 1863 after 108 days at sea. They had three children with them Patrick (5), Denis (3) and Johanna (1). Not much is known about Denis's life in Ireland except that he was illiterate and was probably a shepherd. He appears to have been married before as he emigrated with a son Patrick, by his first wife. Denis was a Catholic. Margaret and Dennis's son Dennis was born 1859-1860 in Clonmel, Tipperary. He was 3 when they emigreated (He is my g grandfather). Hope these press some buttons!!! thanks Terri Foley NZ

Hi Lorna, I've been following the discussion about the above book. What does the book cover? I'm looking for Sullivan'/Walsh family who came to Aust. c. 1884 and can't find anything about them. Any chance there would be some information about individual families? Thanks. Sylvia

Hi Lorna Could you help me with information from the publication mentioned - on Irish families by surnames McCOSKER/McCUSKER/McCASKER? My main interests are: *Bernard & Ellen McCOSKER/McCUSKER who migrated to NSW 1837 on the "Adam Lodge" *Hugh McCUSKER & offspring who I understand migrated to Victoria 1840-50, Hugh arriving after his adult children *Patrick McCASKER/McCUSKER/McCOSKER who was transported to Tasmania 1817 on the "Chapman" *Nicholas McCOSKER/COSKER who migrated 1863 to Brisbane on the "Beejapore" & was followed 1864 on "Queen of the South" by his wife, Anne. A number of others of same surname variations also arrived in ANZ & are of interest as they most likely are related. I don't know how much might be included on each family or whether any are covered but would appreciate your comments. Best wishes, Colin MCCOSKER Sandstone Point, Qld http://search.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Search - Looking for more? Try the new Yahoo! Search
I would appreciate if anyone can tell me about Back Brook, Dublin. This is the place given by my John Riley as his birth place c.1830. I cannot find any reference to it and would hope someone more familiar with the Dublin area may be able to help. Kind regards, Jen
Dear Lorna, Received your email thanks. Where is the library you mentioned? I was contacted by Time Booksellers in Melbourne to say they had a copy of the book for sale, autographed by the author, for $30.20 including postage. So I bought it. Unfortunately it is the wrong one. Although it is called "Irish Families in Australia and New Zealand 1788-1979" by Coffey and Morgan (A-K), it is not the one I was after. I actually wanted Vol. 2 which you have referred to. I would be really grateful if you could look up your copy and photocopy the reference within regarding John Hamilton and his family of Walcha NSW, who was shot and killed. In return, I would be happy to donate my book to your library. I look forward to hearing from you. Billie Jacobsen I look forward to hearing from you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lorna Prendergast" <lprendergast@ozemail.com.au> To: <AUS-IRISH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 12, 2003 5:12 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-IRISH] Irish Families in Australia and New Zealand > on 08/08/2003 2:44 PM, billie at billie@jacobsen.com.au wrote: > > > I am looking for a book called > > > > "Irish Families in Australia and New Zealand" > > Vol.2 1788-1985 > > Coffey and Morgan > > Hi Billie....a great book....from a set of 4 I understand....we have Vol.2 > in the library....would you like a look up?....if any one lets you know > where they are available would you please let me know....Lorna > > > ==== AUS-IRISH Mailing List ==== > I knew that I was taking genealogy too seriously when I turned up at a cemetery search with a shovel > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > > --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi Bart, In amongst my ancients I have a Mary O'Shaughnassy who married Charles GAYNE about 1877 in New Zealand. My only spelling of Mary's surname is as I have spelt it rather than O'Shaughnessy used in your email. Is there a connection? Philip Auckland.

Thomas KING and Mary MEIGHAN from Roscommon, Ireland arrived in Melbourne Jan 1865 and married there. Had children James,1865,Thomas 1867,John 1869 and Winifred 1871 all born at Kyneton; Christiana,1873 and Ellen Ann 1875 both at Ballarat; Francis Patrick 1878,Josephine 1879, Ernest 1881 and Henry Edward 1885 at Yarra. Thomas and Mary eventually settled at Healesville where Thomas worked for the town council and he died in 1907 and Mary died in 1917. James married Margaret Eleanor O'BRIEN; and that line is well recorded. I am looking for the marriages or any information on the other children. I have a letter which indicates that Francis (Frank) married Anne ? in December 1901 0r 1902. Also it seems Winifred may have married a SWEENEY some time between 1903 and 1917.There are possible ties to the DOYLE family of Bundalong and Nagumbie and also to BLACKMORE maybe in Tasmania. Any snippets of information of clues very welcome. Adrienne Newton
Hi Adrienne, I can't really help you except to add that the children born at "Yarra" were probably born at Yarra Glen, a lovely little town some 10-20km from Healesville, where my brother now lives! I'm not sure of the distance between the two towns but I used to easily cycle occasionally from one to the other as a teenager, having grown up in nearby Croydon. Also, not sure if it's a typo, but Nagambie would be where the Doyle's are tied to. (A truck drove through the more-than-a-century-old church about a month ago and demolished it).
