    2. James Crighton
    3. Dear Listers, A member asked this question and my reply was that we were having Roll Calls etc but that archives also exist for the list and should anyone want to search back through the messages posted since this list started back way back then, they only have to cut and paste http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=AUS-IRISH into their address block and bookmark it and press go and Voila! Does a Member Interests site exist? If not, is there anyway that such family name interests can be permanently recorded so that members who join the list at a later stage can access the interests of other members, past and present? Has anybody any other suggestions? Jim C. List pop Aus-Irish List from a warm and sticky Toowoomba, Qld, Australia Log onto www.audps.com for details of Dead Persons Society

    3. Hi Jim Just to let you know, if you are too dumb to own a computer, I would like to be so dumb. The only time I had correspondence with you, you were friendly, informative and helped me use the IRISH web site enormously. Isn't it strange how all these know-it-alls know everything except their names? Don't waste time or effort on this nut. You are probably filling his empty little life by giving him something to write about. Regards Irene Rees - Gold Coast ex Gippsland. Site Host: Beechworth and Myrtleford Vic., Forbes N.S.W. 3. FROM THE LIST ADMINISTRATOR: JIM: letters of this nature are not appropriate to send to the list. As you are aware, a virus is spreading itself throught several perons computers, but that is not a topic for our list. Please resist any further outbursts to the list, as it appear at presnt to be only between you and "anoldfogie" and is not relevant to any list. Rootsweb do screen every email for worms and virus, as does my ISP, and most times viruses only get exchenged between people who contact each other via another method than Rootsweb. Further mail of this nature appearing on the list could be grounds for a suspension Jim Crighton List administrator Jim Blair wrote: > Try it > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "I will not tell you" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2001 3:57 PM > Subject: Re: you're too dumb to own a computer > > > Rootsweb already know all about you, you've been reported to them on > > numerous occassions with your blatant ignorance of their rules, spreading > > false accusations and lies! > > > > Keep it up and you'll soon be banned from all rootsweb mailing lists > > > > > > > > > > >From: "Jim Blair" <[email protected]> > > >To: "I will not tell you" <[email protected]> > > >Subject: Re: you're too dumb to own a computer > > >Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2001 06:54:00 +1000 > > > > > >Would like to be reported to Rootsweb for FLAMING > > >----- Original Message ----- > > >From: "I will not tell you" <[email protected]> > > >To: <[email protected]> > > >Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 10:20 PM > > >Subject: you're too dumb to own a computer > > > > > > > > > > What sort of idiot are you? 3. Hi everyone, This badtrans virus (worm) appears to be on all the lists. I got it yesterday, cleaned it up with Norton Antivirus. The emails apparently sent by me and returned to me were to addresses that I don't even know. It apparently picks up on unopened email and replies using the original message in the subject box. I apologise to anyone who got it from me. The problem with it, is that like my inlaws it just comes in and takes over. Wendy

    3. Hi every-one With this virus floating around since Saturday, I have received numerous emails from infected people. I have been taking care that they have been handled by my virus protection, and they are deleted from my computer. My husband checked the emails this morning, (I mean, it is his computer) and we received another load of virus'. Being the extra careful person he is, he quickly hit the "shift delete" which permanently deletes the email - killing that nasty virus before it was opened...even after the anti-virus protection had rendered it useless. Unfortunately, being so quick and not so careful, ;-)), he also 'shift deleted' my folder with all my +120 unanswered/to be actioned emails. Bit of over kill, but he got rid of those nasty virus' !!!! (Sure has infected a lot of people - worth checking our computers and ensuring our anti-virus is uptodate). If anyone has emailed me, and is waiting for a reply, would you please email me again. I will again try to answer them before he gets too finger happy. hehehhe Sorry to ask, but TIA. Seasonal greetings to all. Lorrae Johnson Plainland Qld 4341 http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=helmrich

    2. Mick Dowling
    3. Hello Nigel I'd put my money on it being a variant of Driscoll. Try pronouncing Driscoll and Driscoo in your best attempt at an Irish accent, and you'll see they sound much the same. My Dowling ancestors variously spelt the name Dooling, Doolin, Doolan, Doolen, Doolon, Dooley, Dowley and Dowlan. Most of those spellings are still current in the part of Tipperary where they came from, and all are pronounced as Doolen. Cheers Mick Dowling Melbourne
