Hi, I just opened the AUS-IRISH-D Digest V01 #203 and found not one of the messages was using the subject line to the best advantage. If you are like me and receive about 50 email a day you value those who do. Can I please suggest that people put the keywords of their message into the subject line. People can then see at a glance whether they are interested in the message or not. Otherwise a lot of people will not see your message and just delete it unread. If you have several names you could send several messages instead of one. Have a merry Christmas! Regards Judy
Alas, no. Sorry. "Mine" was a William and can't find any matches for siblings etc. A related marriage was to Mason. They ended up attached to the big Tatts Lotto family, and Father Jeremy Flynn. Hello, Interested in your note, especially the Quinns from Clonmel. Not to mention the Mason reference -- I have a connection with the family Brady, from Cavan, where a daughter married a Mason and moved to the northern rivers of NSW. Once this Christmas stuff is over, I will be in touch again. When it is mailed from Rootsweb it is okay. Better to ask and all should have anti virus software that can scan your mail as you download it. You can check McAfee and/or Norton websites for good software. If you are using Netscape mail, Norton is best. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton 2002

Hi All A friend sent me this excellent piece of advice that I think will benefit all of you and stop any email viruses spreading. Cheers Peter from Sydney Australia Virus Prevention By: Simon Collard - offers a simple solution to spreading e-mail viruses. As Simon says, this won't prevent your computer from being infected, and Anti-Virus protection is a "MUST" if you're on the Internet, but this will help prevent the spread of viruses.) This tip won't prevent YOU from getting viruses (you have to scan those attachments yourself before opening them to do that), but it will stop those viruses from latching onto your address book and sending itself out to others. To avoid spreading computer viruses, create a Contact in your e-mail Address Book with the name: !0000 with NO e-mail address. This contact will then show up as your first contact in your Address Book. If a virus attempts to do a "send all" on your contact list, your pc will put up an error message saying that "The message could not be sent. One or more recipients do not have an e-mail address. Please check your Address Book and make sure all recipients have a valid e-mail address." You click on OK and the offending (virus) message would not have been sent to anyone. Of course, no changes have been made to your original contacts list. The (virus) message may then be automatically stored in your "Drafts" or "Out box" folder. Go in there and delete the offending message. Problem is solved and virus is not spread. Try this and pass on to your e-mail contacts.
Hello List, Could any person please tell me if this address is known to them? On a Rates Report my gr.gr.grandfather shows as paying £25 for a land and house in Paddy's Gully in 1860. It could be near Myrtle Street in Golden Square area as gr.gr.grandf. also appears to have paid £10 for a land and house there. Also there is a third listing: £10 for land and house "Back of Camp and Bridge Street off, left hand side". I should particularly like to know if these sites still exist. Thanks, Julie in Lincs. UK
Hi Louise, Could only find a Margaret Bourke. Arrived Port Phillip (Melbourne) 31/3/1850 on the Eliza Caroline, then to Geelong Depot on 1/5/1850. Listed as 16 yrs from Carrick on Suir. Co. Tipperary. Worked for Donald Cumming, Bald Hill, which is shown as 20 mile out the Sydney Road. Religion Catholic. That's as much as I can tell you. By the way your Hickey line isn't connected to Bendigo area by any chance? Thank you Tom. Yes, you are right - one should never mail without the actual record in front of one!! It was suggested to me that Drumshanbo might be the place meant by Drumshannock in the shipping records. And there are so many spellings of LEHENY that I can never remember which one was recorded on which record. I have no idea what it would look like in Irish records. Regards, Alice.
Does anyone know of a list for Western Australia please. Jim

Hello to all - this is a relatively long missive, but those who have been following the settlement of the Logan should find it interesting. In 1859, George HARRISON 25, his wife Susan HARRISON 21 (nee Susan Jane WILLIS) and Infant HARRISON (Samuel born at Sea) arrived in Melbourne on board the "Gipsy Bride" May 1860 from Ireland. Refer Fiche 177 Page 004 Victorian Shipping Records. The proceeds from a crop of flax grown by George in Market Hill, Co Armagh paid for their passage. The HARRISONs were from Magheradogherty and the WILLISs from the next door land Drumnamether. Their second son William was born at Ballarat and they then moved to Bendigo - it appears that they didn't fare too well on the Goldfields. George's sister Mary and her husband Samuel HEATHWOOD had come to Brisbane in 1856 and so George and Susan decided to join them here. They lived at Brookfield where Samuel and George split timber to make roofing material for houses in Brisbane. They were known as shingle merchants. Sons Robert and George were born at Brookfield. The fifth lad, Jack, was born at Eight Mile Plains. George Snr had heard of the new country being opened up on the Logan River and he applied for a pine scrub selection. This was the first of three and cost £16/17/6 in 1869 and it was also here that their first home was built - a slab hut. A more substantial house was built and it still remains. "Broomfield" is still occupied by one of the descendants and his family. Two giant jacaranda trees at the front of the house make it easily identifiable to anyone driving towards Beaudesert. Another selection of 238 acres was taken up in 1873 for £59/10/- and then another 88 acres for £22/5/-. Before the slab hut was built, the family lived at Baker's Camp (now known as Millstream) and their first daughter Susan was born here. Alec (Alexander) was the first born in the slab hut, and then followed five more daughters - the first being Magdalene - David's Grandmother. Sadly Susan died aged 54 in 1892 and these girls were only children. On 19.07.1883 the "Jerusalem" left Ireland and arrived in Brisbane on 31.10.1883. On board were Mary KERLIN (nee Mary Jane BELL) 46, Dinah 24, Mary Jane 22, James 21, twins William and Moses 19, Sarah 16 and Samuel --- no father! They were from Ballynahinch, Co Down. Mary died on 9 January 1884 - she had contracted either scarletinia or typhus on board ship. William is David's Grandfather. This is where we come "unstuck". This family had to have lived with or near the HARRISONs. Records show that the two families were 'like one big happy family'. This is borne out by the fact that 3 HARRISONs married 3 KERLINs. The beautiful old HARRISON homestead holds many photographs but no stories. We know that the families associated with the Flanagans, and many other Irish settlers, but the young KERLIN boys are not mentioned in any of my filed material. We have photographs of GGGF James KERLIN's grave and tombstone which was erected by GGF James in 1859. We also have photographs of the old house and Ordnance Survey maps of the property in Ballycreen, a townland a little NE of Ballynahinch. Thank you for reading this. If no one on the List can help, maybe one of you knows of someone who may be able to do so. Please pass our plea to any who may be able to help. Cedar Grove must have been very close to the German settlement.
