    3. Hi Jim it would not be possible unless they were convicts with work permits. Ours was a very new country and unless you got your name in a paper or worked for government you went anyplace you wanted andtold nobody. We only started keeping good records after world war two. 3. Below I have pasted portion of a message that showed up on another list. It concerns an Irish family who left Ireland and went to USA; but though the working of the list and the writers own research, they have succeeded in producing maps tracing the paths the ancestors took as they settled in USA.------- MY WISH? How could we do a similar project in Australia, by tracing the footsteps our Irish ancestors took as they moved around our great country...........any starters? bye for now your lis dad, Jim This is one of the many reasons I will not, of my own will, leave this list. In addition to the depth of knowlege you bring to this site, you offer links to other sites we'd probably never find on our own. I'm especially greatful for the map at the following site which you just listed. http://www.geocities.com/gentutor/braddock.html The land at the terminus of Braddock's military road, near where he met his defeat, was originally owned by John (?) Frazier, one of the first settlers in that part of the country. George Washington knew him well and spent time at his cabin. My family arrived in the U.S. from Donegal in 1823 and, after a short stay in Albany, N.Y., returned to western Pa. and bought up that very land, or most of it. This is the first map I've seen of the military road overlaying a map of the rivers and streams. Our property was where Turtle Creek enters the Monongahela. We made a killing on it in 1871 when the Carnegie brothers wanted it for the Edgar Thomson Steel Mill (still standing). Andy C. mentioned my ancestors in his autobiography as being a little too fond of their land. He and his group bought the property for what, in today's money, would be just over $3.1 million. Now, I don't know what happened to the money over the years. Didn't make it down this far. My guess is the Scotch in us made the killing and the Irish in us blew it. end of quote

    3. Tracee, I am not sure why you ask me re Lord Stanley, but it is a good co incidence since I have earlier searched the same records for one Ellen Walsh, g.grandmother, from Castle Erkin, Co. Limerick, who "may" have come on Lord Stanley in 1850. Not on the list though her sister's family (Hartigans + 2 children) is, following 6 Walsh family members who came in 1844 (St Vincent. Ellen may have travelled steerage and not recorded. She may not have been on the lord stanley at all. If you are in Sydney, there are on the public area shelves at State Archives, a couple of Books of A3 size old fashioned computer printouts listing in (A) alpha order and (B) ship order, all the passengers and some personal details, around that time. The Hartigans are on it and presumably all other passengers, but it may or may not include steerage. This can then lead you to Emigrant Bounty papers which generally have passengers origins, d.o.b etc, parents back in Ireland, any family in the Colony etc. At State Archives in lower George St. I am not in Sydney, so can't help, at least for now. Internet states as follows at State records of NSW: 1844-59 Index to Assisted Immigrants arriving Sydney and Newcastle (Compiled and published by Archives Office as Guide No.29 in 3 vols.) (Microfiche copy published by State Records as Guide 4 on SR Fiche 2481-2491) Other readers of this message may know of internet addresses where the passenger lists may be available. Father Joseph McNamee (of the 12th Regiment Cavalry, British Army; Mother Mary Ann McNamee, later remarrying an O J Meaker. (Joseph senior prior to 1880). There was a brother James, born 1854 who died at the Battle of Kalibani, part of the Basuto Gun Wars. Joseph was a witness (in Grahamstown) at his brother's wedding to Margaret Mulligan after which he no longer appears in St Patrick's Church records. Family information has always been of the firm opinion that Joseph went to New South Wales. He played rugby union, we believe for an early version of the Warratahs. _________________________________________________________________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

    2. kezi rossi
    3. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME, I AM LOOKING FOR THE WILSON FAMILY, THAT MIGRATED FROM IRELAND POSSIBLY TO PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, CIRCA 1852. I JOINED THE IRISH DIGEST, ETC. BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK, I THOUGHT WILSON WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY POPULAR IRISH NAME, OR IS IT NOT? FORGIVE MY IGNORANCE, IF SO. I DO NOT HAVE MANY DETAILS, PERHAPS THAT IS WHY I HAVE NOT HAD A REPLY. I HAVE ONLY VAGUE MEMORIES OF MY DECEASED MOTHER TELLING ME, SO THEREFORE, THE FOLLOWING MAY NOT BE EXACTLY CORRECT, BUT I AM SURE IT IS CLOSE. BURLEIGH WILSON (Born 1852 or migrated from Ireland to Perth, via? Married Mabel (nee name not known). Lived in East Perth.
