    2. Rosalyn Smaill
    3. Hi Judith, There is a HARPUR family in New Zealand, descended from Joseph HARPUR 1776-1842 and Shirley CHIDLEY 1789-1866. Joseph's birthplace is given as Kinsdale, Co. Cork. This is not necessarily correct, as he may given false information to keep information of this court proceedings getting back to his family in Ireland. Both Joseph and Shirley were convicts, Joseph was employed as a school teacher and was the first published Australian poet.. Their children are: Elizabeth 1808-1852 Joseph Jehoshaphat 1810-1878 John Mileham 1815-1847 Mary Chidley 1817-1879 William James 1819-1879 James Henry 1822-1825 William James HARPUR was a whaler and a book about the descendants of Joseph and Shirley written by a New South Wales member of the family lists him as "lost at sea" on his last voyage from Sydney departing 7 Oct 1843. However he obviously left the whaling vessel in New ZealandWilliam James Harpur married a Maori woman of Ngai Tahu iwi, Meri (Mary) PAKANUI 1824-1872 at Moeraki on 30 Dec 1845. They had eight children and many of the HARPUR / OR / ER families in the New Zealand are descended from them. Both William and Meri were buried in Waimati. When living in New Zealand I did extensive research into the family which married into my husband's BUTLER family and am happy to work with you, if you think it helpful. Hello members of the AUS-IRISH mailing list, currently hosted on Rootsweb/Ancestry servers. My name is Peter and I have been the list administrator of this list since it was abandoned. On 7th January 2020, Rootsweb informed all list admins that they will not be providing any mailing list services after 2nd March 2020, except to keep the archives available (see RW email appended below). In other words, all lists will cease to be. If members want to keep this list active, they will need to host it on a new server. A number of such servers exist, such as groups.io, FaceBook, google groups. I personally do not wish to remain the admin of this list, so one of the members will need to step up as a new administrator if they want to keep this list alive. As a side comment, I think that many of the smaller lists were created in Rootsweb's heyday, and are probably past reviving. I can't remember when the last post to this list was. If there are any questions, please post them to the list, but do it quickly as time is running out quickly. 3. Hello Gail, Australia has most capital and regional city newspapers on Trove at the Australian National Library. https://www.nla.gov.au just put trove into the search window and it will bring up the newspaper search window. We also have The Ryerson Index http://ryersonindex.org/index.htm which a wonderful Index of death notices appearing in dozens or perhaps hundreds of newspapers all around Australia. Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and NSW (New South Wales) have births, deaths and marriages online - to access them put in the state then bdm index and it will bring up the appropriate website. The listings give names of parents along with the name of the child, place of birth and registration number. The best place to find out about the Irish people in Australia is in the newspapers. Someone will probably answer you with more places and websites to search. Best wishes with your research Particia -----Original Message----- From: Gail Schinnerer Jorgensen [mailto:gailjmom@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, 14 October 2019 2:58 PM To: aus-irish@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-IRISH] New list member I am a new list member from the USA.
