    1. McCance, 1853, "Marion Moore" or "Confiance"?

    3. My gg gparents (John & Agnes McCance) and family were processed through customs at Geelong as assisted immigrants (12/4/1853) with the "Confiance" passengers (book 10, pp 88 & 93). The "Confiance" had been quarantined at Portsea on 7/4/1853. The ship's manifest for the "Marion Moore" (arrived Geelong, 15/2/1853), however, listed them (although their names were crossed out) as passengers along with Agnes' eldest married sons (Hamilton & John McMillan, from her first marriage) and their families. To explain this duplication on passenger lists - a.. Were the McCances quarantined at Portsea from the "Marion Moore" until the "Confiance" arrived and from which 137 passengers were quarantined? b.. Were the 137 "Confiance" passengers quarantined ashore for say six weeks and the "Confiance" allowed to sail onto Geelong with the healthy passengers and those from previous ships (including the McCances) who had completed their quarantine at Portsea? c.. Are there any surviving quarantine-records from that period which may pinpoint when the McCances arrived? Ian Dann

    3. Ian Your info is very interesting and, in fact, the Marion Moore is a ship whose records I plan to check for Joseph Hall. Where did you get the info re quarantining, please?
