Lois' reply to Liz about the Highland and Island Emigration Society, HIES has opened up a can of worms for me...! 1. My grandmother had a "Founders of Australia" framed certificate that says my JOHNSTON family departed Edinburgh and arrived in Point Henry Geelong in 1852 on board the BORUCARRY... 2. The Assisted Immigration lists online say they came out on board the BOURNEUP... 3. and the HIES website says "Ship"BORNEUF" SAILED FROM LIVERPOOL FOR GEELONG ON THE 26th OF May 1852. ARRIVED GEELONG 3rd SEPTEMBER 1852" It seems like the same ship has been called 3 different names! Which one do you reckon has the got the name of the ship right? What do Listers reckon I should do? Look up the records at PROV myself...? Regards Teresa > Hi - This is not of much value, because imprecise, but there is a > book about the Highlands and Islands Emigration Scheme (HIES) which > brought Scots out in the late forties and early fifties, at the time > of the Clearances -
Hi Teresa, I would check the records at PROV, as you will probably find quite a bit more about the ship and voyage. Most of the sites have "BORNEUF" example http://www.starbytes.com.au/family/ships/bourneuf2.html Kind regards, Lynne ----- Original Message ----- From: "Teresa Prince" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 28, 2005 10:17 PM Subject: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Highland and Island Emigration Society, HIES - the ship BORUCARRY or BOURNEUP or BORNEUF - JOHNSTON > Lois' reply to Liz about the Highland and Island Emigration Society, HIES > has opened up a can of worms for me...! > > 1.
