Hi All, I'm calling on your experince with this one. I have a Daniel Orchard in the family, he is the first male in the family in Australia, he was born in London, England (marriage certificate) around 1816 (death certificate, but I don't think this is correct, I'm guessing around the 1830's sometime). He married Emily Abigail Sullivan in Warrnambool, victoria in 1851, she was an irish famina orphan. After being married, they travelled across victoria to Gippsland and settled in Stratford and never moved again, they had 12 children while there and are now resting in Stratford cemetery. My mystery is this, How did he get here ? I have not found him on shipping indexs yet. I can tell you that - he was a carpenter by trade. - he was educated, he could write very nicely (several certificates of his children confirm it's his hand writing over a 30 year peroid). - the first trace of him in Australia is his marriage certificate in 1851 Warrnambool, Victoria. - I have found several other Orchard families that arrive after him but have no connection. I'm still learning how to do this, so any advice you can offer, I would love. Thanks in advance Michael Grocott.
