In 1851, the cargo ship Condor (but also carrying some passengers) was berthed at Adelaide for about seven weeks - from May 11, 1851 until approximately June 30. One family (Mr & Mrs Newton and three children) was destined for Melbourne, but apparently stayed on board - or on land at Adelaide - during this prolonged stop. Can anyone tell me where I might uncover any information on the Condor's stay and/or of that family. Allan Jamieson Burnie Tasmania
Hi Allan, Probably Mortlock Library may have more information on this. Or an article in the newspaper of the time the "Register". http://www.catalog.slsa.sa.gov.au:1084/screens/opacmenu.html The following is from Di Cummings site, but does not have a list of passengers http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Edicummings/SAShips1851-1855.htm 1851 CONDOR from Liverpool 23 - 01 1851 - Captain Daly, arrived Port Adelaide on 11-05-1851 From Migrant ships for South Australia CONDOR 849/912t, Wood. 3 mast ship.
