This is new info for me - have tried the link you supplied John, but can't locate The Vagabond Papers. What sort of timelines are we talking here btw, I have ggparents who were married in Cornwall in October 1862, & first child was born Bendigo March 1865, so they must have emigrated between those dates - but how do I find out exactly when, and on what ship. I am pretty sure they were unassisted emigrants. Names: William & Annie HARVEY, Wm born 1838, Annie born 1839, both in Cornwall. I know Annie spent one year in New Zealand, (from her death cert) so it is possible they went to NZ first. Would so appreciate any advice on this 'brick wall'.
