Hi Lynne, Thanks very much for your help re details of "Fairlie" 1848 and info from Gillian Kelly's book "Well-suited to The Colony" regarding passengers Janet Turner and Zaccheus Timms. I'm trying now to find out more about Zaccheus. Does the book mention any more about him or anyone else sailing with him? There was no other reference to Janet Turner in the book I gather? I know from Fairlie indent at local library (on microfilm) that there was a number of young single Irish women on board from Cork Foundling Hospital. They could read and write most of them and had embroidery, dressmaking skills etc. Janet was a dairymaid, and could read but not write. I'd like to know who sponsored her voyage on Fairlie.
