HI Carolyn, The book, ' The Rockley Manner', lists has 5+pages on the 'Summerhill' property - Portion 98, Pariah of Rockley County of Giorgiana, 1500 acres, granted to "Lieutenant Hunbury Clements' in 1830. It states that he died in 1847, his wife died in 1880. It might be worth checking for any interesting info. Family story goes that George and Charlotte were married in England, sold everything and bought a ship in which they sailed to Australia with 2 little daughters, Hannah Elizabeth and Sarah Ann and baby Mary Jane was born at sea, supposedly in "abt 1860." They then sold the ship and bought a bullock and dray and travelled across the Blue Mountains to Rockley near Bathurst N.S.W. where they stayed and had a further 7 children from 1862. A researcher checked the 'supposed' marriage on 17 Apr, 1854, Derbyshire UK, but it certainly couldn't be found. (Family member's information.) 2 unnamed daughters were born at Bathurst in 1859 and 1861(to a George and Charlotte SHEPPARD), (Source: N.S.W. BMD). There is also a birth of a George SHEPHARD in Sydney in 1859 with just the mother's name of Charlotte. There is loads more...........................(for another posting.) I have tried every available source to find the possible name of the ship or a ship listing them as passengers, to no avail. Would anyone know where on earth I could look? When George came to Bathurst, he was a farmer. After he died in 1879, Charlotte is listed as a Landholder of over 1,300 acres at "Summerhill", Rockley in 1885. She died in 1916. As well, what would be the route of such a ship? Could they have stopped off somewhere and have been included in a Census (foreign)? Kind regards, Carolyn. Hi, Jann, Thank you very much for your help. (Much needed and so welcome!) I have read it: some years ago now, though. Makes me wonder was it for sale when George SHEPHARD and Charlotte came to Rockley (and why Rockley, of all places? !!) Plus per Lynne's wonderful message (I'm in the midst of writing a reply, Lynne when Jann's email came in), George SHEPPARD is listed in Greville's Directory of N.S.W. in 1872 as being a farmer at Wallaby Joe's Creek. I have George's DC of 1879 (he was buried at Wallaby Joe's Creek, wherever that is, by his son-in-law, Carl ASIMUS, "acting undertaker" and the witnesses were John NIGHTINGALE and Dominic ENGLISH ) and by 1885 Mrs Charlotte SHEPHARD and their son James are listed as Bathurst Landholders at "Summerhill" and "Wallaby Joe's Creek", or was it "Mountain Run" (?) Rockley. There is also a mysterious F. SHEPHERD, whom I can't work out. Plenty more information from this end........................... I so much appreciate the help, though.
