Steve Re. looking for an image of the ship, have you tried: http://www.photoship.co.uk/ or the German Maritime Museum website at: http://www.dsm.de/e2arcv.htm Also, I don't know what happened to Nick Vine Hall's "Ship Picture Research Service" after he passed away, but this is/was? an excellent webpage/service .... if it's still functioning. (I had real success with this service - my query resulted in a photograph of my 'German ship of interest' being located in an American collection!) Re. news reports - Eric and Rosemary Kopittke's series, "Emigrants From Hamburg to Australia 1857-59" includes the "Voorwaarts" and (some) extracts from papers of the day are usually included with each ship listed in these volumes. As an aside, have you considered looking at alternate spellings for 'Voorwaarts'? Owing to the German/Dutch pronunciation ie. 'f' for 'v', you may find variations like 'Forwards', 'Forwortz', etc. Rgs Lisa Gladstone, Q _________________________________________________________________ Advertisement: 1000s of Sexy Singles online now at Lavalife http://a.ninemsn.com.au/b.aspx?URL=http%3A%2F%2Flavalife9%2Eninemsn%2Ecom%2Eau%2Fclickthru%2Fclickthru%2Eact%3Fid%3Dninemsn%26context%3Dan99%26locale%3Den%5FAU%26a%3D29219&_t=762256209&_r=june07_endtext_search&_m=EXT
Lisa Many thanks. >>http://www.photoship.co.uk/ What an excellent site this is! There are in fact 2 Voorwaarts listed but neither could be the one I am looking for. Both are steamers and look like cargo transports. The Voorwart I found listed carried many passengers. >>Eric and Rosemary Kopittke's series, "Emigrants From Hamburg to Australia 1857-59" includes the "Voorwaarts" Is any of this available online that anyone knows of? I have seen extracts from their books before and have found ancestors in them. A trip to the library won't hurt me anyway. >>Owing to the German/Dutch pronunciation ie. 'f' for 'v', you may find variations like 'Forwards', 'Forwortz', etc. Thanks again. I hadn't considered that. I will widen my search Cheers Steve O in blustery chilly Brisbane
