Carolyn, Don't get too fixed on occupations. My John Clakre on the Admiral Boxer in 1857 was sponsored as a gardener. On the 1841 British census there was no occupation, 1847 on his first wife's death certificate he was a greengrocer, 1851 British census, he was a clerk in a sloicitors office, on the different Victorain birth death marraige certificates of his,his secoond wife and his children his occupation ranges from cook, miner, general servant, labourer. Difficult to believe it could be the same man but it is!!! regards Robyn in Wodonga ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carolyn and Darryl" <dazwilson@bigpond.com> To: <aus-immigration-ships@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 16, 2007 1:28 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] " SARAH SANDS". -Info ? > Hi, Marg, > > I had to ask the person who sent me the photocopy to transcribe it for me > because the print was so faint. > > This is what she said: > > Name of Seaman: John WILSON. > No. of Register Ticket: 564838 > Capacity: Cook > Date of Entry: 18 or 28 Sept, 1852 > Date of Discharge: 2 June, 1853 > Place of Discharge: Liverpool wriiten as Lpool > > Certificate dated 3 June, 1853 > > This ship left Cork for Melbourne early in 1852. > > John WILSON's Certificate of Character dated at Liverpool 3 Jun, 1853. > > Signed: W Ilsly, Master of the Ship > William (could be SCOTT), Shipping Master. > > I remember being able to read the ship's name and it was "Sarah Sands." > > This relative doubts that it is "our" John WILSON, because he is a Railway > Porter on his marriage certificate, a shop owner in the 1851 Census (Lancs) > and now a cook on a ship. > > He is not listed as crew and is supposed to have travelled to Aus with his > wife Mary and sons William Henry and John. > > Don't tell me this is yet another "family story" or wrong information !!!! > > Best wishes, > > Carolyn. > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "MargM" <genknut@optusnet.com.au> > To: <aus-immigration-ships@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, July 16, 2007 12:34 PM > Subject: Re: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] " SARAH SANDS". -Info ? > > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Carolyn and Darryl" <dazwilson@bigpond.com> > > To: <aus-immigration-ships@rootsweb.com> > > Sent: Saturday, July 07, 2007 4:46 PM > > Subject: Re: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] " SARAH SANDS". > > > > > >> > >> Hoping for a little help here. > >> > >> I have a print out of our ancestor's "Certificate of > >> Character" when he was > >> employed as a Cook on the above ship. > >> > >> His name was John WILSON. > >> > >> It appears from the image (which is a photocopy and very > >> faint) that the > >> ship left Liverpool UK in Sep, 1852 and arrived on 2 > >> Jun, 1853. > > > > Hi Caroline > > Can you please confirm the name of this ship and its > > arrival date > > No 'Sarah Sands' in State Records the on line index of > > ships arriving ? > > > > > > Bye > > MargM > > Beautiful Wyong Shire > > NSW > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to AUS-IMMIGRATION-SHIPS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
