My source for the Shipping records for the William Metcalfe's journey to Australia in 1839 is from a part of a publication that I was sent called "Historical Records of Victoria", Foundation Series. Volume 4. Communications, Trade & Transport. Published in Melbourne in 1985 and was available at the Public Record Office Victoria. I don't know if it is still available or not.
