    1. [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Need help with ship list & REV LANG??
    2. Elaine Jefferson
    3. Hi to all out there. I am needing help on a puzzle I have been trying to answer for the past 2 weeks >From the State Library I have copied from a passengere list MINERVA 1838 into NSW. The guy I am chasing is Robert WYLIE or WILEY. He was either sponsered or brought out by a REV DR LANG. I have never heard of this person only from what I have found on the internet and that's not much. >From the UNMARRIED MALE IMMIGRANT page for the Minerva it shows the place of birth / Native place as Isle of something beginning with A I think and ending with a K???? or H I thought it might have been ORKNEY no, then Isle of ARRAN no go. I have no idea where he is from and someone thought if I was able to locate the information about this Rev. Lang I might get the place of embarkation of the MINERVA. She did bring some Convicts out, but WYLIE was just a young lad of 21 and 22 when he married the next year to Mary McKENZIE. If anyone can enlighten me about this Rev LANG and his sponsoring or whatever I would be grateful With many thanks for any help or ideas Elaine JEFFERSON jeffersoneb@patash.com.au

You possibly didnt do a www.google.com. search for info on him ? This came up with many pages..... Try it "john dunmore lang" as did "minerva 1838" > >From the UNMARRIED MALE IMMIGRANT page for the Minerva it shows the place of birth / Native place as Isle of something beginning with A I think and ending with a K???? or H I thought it might have been ORKNEY no, then Isle of ARRAN no go. Did you try enlarging on a photocopier ? Really study place of birth of some of the other passengers ? Does his death cert help ? > I have no idea where he is from and someone thought if I was able to locate the >information about this Rev. Lang I might get the place of embarkation of the MINERVA. Was Grennock ( Scotland) Any ref in the 3 vols of the Logs of Logs books ?? The Rev John Dunmore LANG was a real mover and shaker in the 1840s/50s to get this country populated preferable with Scottish Presbyterians She did bring some Convicts out, but WYLIE was just a young lad of 21 and 22 when >he married the next year to Mary McKENZIE. Check Batesons ' Convict ships book' Possible did make more than one voyage > > If anyone can enlighten me about this Rev LANG and his sponsoring or whatever I would be grateful I would think that any of the State Libraries or larger libraries would have a great deal of info on this Rev Bye Marg Morters Member of Central Coast Family History Society GOSFORD NSW Australia
