Seeking information/persons whose forebears arrived per this vessel. Sailed from Bremen 21/29.12.1858 with 142/145 passengers and general cargo aboard; via Moreton Bay (arriving 25/28.05.1859) to Sydney - docking 14.07.1859. As a full Passenger List for this voyage doesn't exist at 'either end' i.e. Germany or Australia, my long term goal is to compile at least a partial passenger list and I have made some progress in this. Ultimately, I aim to write a book dealing with the "Solon", her 1858/1859 voyage and her subsequent loss off Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia April 1860. (My original interest was piqued as I believe my forefather, Johann Diedrich SCHWEDTMANN aka 'John SWEEDMAN', was a Crew Member aboard this vessel; later settling here in Australia.) Have (incomplete) Passenger List, copies of List of Crew & letter written by passenger, as well as various newspaper notices/articles of the day ("Moreton Bay Courier" & "Sydney Morning Herald"), info from Germany re. registration of vessel, etc., if anyone would like 'look up' and/or photocopy.
