Would anyone have knowledge of the ship Australie which I believe arrived in Melbourne in November 1854 carrying immigrants (I presume Bounty Immigrants). The name interests me as it is obviously French, and why would a French ship be carrying immigrants to Australia at that time? I am searching for a HILL FAMILY (Joseph, Esther,William, James,Charles, Louisa, Esther(jnr) David, Mary Ann, Emma and Henry and a couple of others) and I believe they may have been on this ship. Any information about the ship and/or passenger list would be very appreciated. Chris.
Chris, I too, located a ship carrying immigrants from UK in 1889 that was in fact an Italian vessell - 'Liguria" which arrived in June 1889 at Portland, Victoria. Try the 'ship transcribers guild' on line, this site may be able to give you some clues, would be intrigued to know what you discover. Have a terriffic day!
