Hello, I am in need of advise on where to search for a UK Merchant Navy ship arrival to Williamstown in 1926. I have been to the PRO and searched the passenger lists for this year with no luck. The name I am looking for is Alexander Russell McDonald. I believe he worked for his passage to Australia. Could anyone tell me if there is an index or listing of Merchant Ships? Which newspaper should I be checking and how would I narrow my search for these records? The ship name of Mermaid has been mentioned in the family as a possibility, although I can find no record.
