Hi All, Hoping for ideas here. Our great grandmother Maria Mary Wallace came to South Australia (according to her death certificate) at about 18 years of age, about 1858. Facts I know are that her father's name was James Wallace & an Anne Wallace was a witness at her wedding in 1864 (I am assuming that Anne may have been a sister). I know Maria was Catholic and also from her death certificate that she was born in Westmeath, Ireland. I cannot find Maria's arrival - BUT - A Mr James Wallace, his wife Mary & children Anne, James, John & Thomas arrived on the Nugget in 1858. This family was from Westmeath, Ireland & their religion is given as Catholic but no sign of my Maria Wallace on board. Maria's age at this time would fit well as to her being the eldest child & also another clue is that after her marriage, some of the names she chose for her children were - James, Mary Anne, John & Thomas. Other children's names have a connection to her husband's family. Do you think this may all be coincidence? Does anyone have any ideas that may help? I was wondering if there was a limit to the number of children in a family group allowed to apply for assisted passage (had a feeling I read this somewhere). Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
