I have all the information on his daughter - marriage and death certificates. However, we cannot find one single reference to Edward. Who were the witnesses on her marriage cert ? Do you know what is occuapation was ? Have you checked electoral rolls and /or Sands PO directories ??. both available at the NSW State Library No death certificate at all. We've checked with cousins back in Birkenhead and they're sure he left with the daughter (she was about 19 at that time). Was he migrating too or just came as chaperone ? He would have been about 65 yrs old in 1920 .......seems a tad old to be emigrating ? > . > > Edward Kitchen seems to have vanished without a trace! > > One theory we've considered is that he died en-route. I'm wondering whether anyone can advise where the death registration would be if this is the case. > The NSW between the Wars indexes list 22 marine deaths in 1920 . None have a name anything like his. This doesnt mean that there were only 22 marine deaths in that year > The other thing that I'd like to check is arrival lists for 1920. I have no idea of the name of the vessel unfortunately. Is there an archives centre in Sydney that holds these sorts of records? Arrival records, passenger lists. Of course there is .....! NSW State Records , Globe Street , off Lower George St, The Rocks. But I dont like your chances of finding this pair. Passenger arrival films are in date of arrival order and include ALL ships coastal and overseas. The hand writing changes constantly and there are exceedingly hard to check thru Abit of a short cut could be is to find the names of the ships that ran the regular trips from UK to Australia........ Union Line, P & O Orient etc Try subbing to the ShipList for a while Once you have the names and arrival dates of a few passenger ships check down at State Records Bye Marg Morters Beautiful Central Coast of NSW Australia
