Looking for any info. pertaining to the ship Euphemia, out of Liverpool, England and arriving in Australia in 1850. She was classified as a prison ship. My immigrant ancestor, Laurence Hickey, his younger sister Margaret and two supposed uncles, Edward and John Luby, sailed on the Euphemia from Liverpool to New Orleans, LA, arriving in New Orleans on Oct. 20, 1849. Relatives have told me that Laurence Hickey and his family were freedom fighters in Ireland. This time frame corresponds with the Fenian movement in Ireland which was responsible for a Rising in Ballingarry, Co. Tipperary in 1848. (Laurence Hickey was born in Cashel, Co. Tipperary in March 1831). I am curious to know if any of the Fenians were exiled to Australia on board the ship Euphemia in 1850. Thomas Clarke Luby, one of the founders of the Fenians, could be related to Laurence Hickey through Laurence's mother, Margaret Luby. Any info. on this ship would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!
