    2. Gayle Stewart
    3. Hi Carolyn I too have Italian ancestors! and they are a nightmare to find as they often anglisize their names! You can try Emigrants from Hamburg CD by Qld Family history group this should be in the library. During 19th century no ships left from Italy people had to travel to Germany. Also try National Archives Australia website as they were probably naturalised and most of these are online. If so this will give you the shipping details as well. 3. I am trying to help a friend locate her Italian ancestors. Surnames are ALTOMARE and AZZOLINI(sic). Christian names are Mauro and Vincenza, with dates of birth 1873 - 1892 and dates of death 1950 - 1973. Apologies for such scant information. I have found one death in NSW of an Antonio ALTOMARE, 1972, Burwood with parents Mauro and Anna. Is there SKS who could suggest more bdm sites in Australia I could try. The IGI doesn't appear to have any lists for Italy??? Best wishes, Carolyn in Bathurst. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. It has removed 195 spam emails to date. 3. Thanks Lynne, You've given me the shipping line. It looks like it only made one voyage - I wonder what happened to it. I'll follow up the Shaw Saville lead and try to find an image of the ship. It was from the Auckland paper, Southern Cross 21.10.1870, that I found: Name: HUMPHRIES, William Vessel: ESTRELLA. Oct 20 1870 Captain's name: Crowder Date of departure: June 27, 1870 Port of Departure: Liverpool Date of arrival: October 20, 1870 Port of arrival: Auckland Vessel type: Barque Tonnage: 499 The tonnage doesn't match The Times advertisement, but it must be the same ship. Thanks again, Maureen ----- Original Message ----- Hi Maureen, The only information I can find is from The Times Friday June 17 1870 Advertisement NEW ZEALAND - The passengers Line >From Liverpool Estrella, 1000ton - Port Auckland To sail June. The ships are all first rate passenger packets, fitted and equipped upon plans founded upon long experience. Shaw, Savill & Co., 34 Leaden-Ball St., London. Kind regards, Lynne. 3. I certainly don't wish downgrade the bravery that Mr. Corbett displayed to earn his DCM but you will find that the Military Cross (MC) and the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) both rank above the DCM but below the VC. The British Gazette should have details of the action that led to his award. You might be interested to know that I have just concluded over 20 years of research on this chap, with the assistance of military contacts in Canberra and in Kew, England. As the headstone notes, he won the DCM (second only to the VC) but there was no record of him in honour rolls either here or in England. We have finally (just a few months ago) managed to get him inscribed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site. I suspect that his father is buried in the same grave or nearby, although the CORBETT/COLLETTE headstone doesn't indicate this. His aunt, my great grandmother, is buried within a few metres of Harold CORBETT. Her name was Elizabeth TUNNICLIFFE (nee CORBETT), and she is buried with her son, Frank TUNNICLIFFE.
