My husband's grandfather, Knut Sten Alexius LINDER departed Sweden aboard the Italian ship " Ninfa " and arrived in Sydney on 2 April 1913. I need to know whether he was a passenger or crew member, the port of departure and any relevant information about the voyage. Regards, Iona Fettell in Mackay, Queensland.
Hello All, I am new to this list and am researching my wife's ancestors at present. The information we have so far is as follows; Patrick Foley (her Great Grandfather) migrated to Australia aboard the "Lady McNaughten" in 1836. On the journey to Australia his two younger sisters (Mary & Margaret) and his father Michael passed away from the dreaded disease Typhus. With his mother and two brothers he arrived in Australia in February 1937 and the ship was quarantined until May 1837. Patrick Foley died at Warracknabeal aged 68 in 1896. His death certificate shows that he was in New South Wales for 9 years and Victoria for 50 years - a total of 59 years in Australia. This indicates that he was about 9 years old when he arrived in New South Wales in 1837 from Ireland, and approximately 18 years old when he came to Victoria from N.S.W. around 1846-1847. I am seeking any information on the ship "Lady McNaughton" and its arrival in 1837, if any passenger details are available, and details of the quarantine when it arrived in N.S.W. Where would I be able to access such records (I live in Melbourne). RESEARCHING FOLEY MURPHY (in N.S.W.)
This is my first posting so forgive me for any mistakes. My name is Robyn and I have been looking for my g. grandfather William Charles PURCELL. He was born in India around 1835, his father of the same name died in India 1846. On his death cert. it states he was about 10 when he came to Australia. I have searched the shipping lists for NSW, VIC, and South Aust. no William Purcell age 10. As there is no mention of a mother could he be an orphan. Would ships leaving India come straight to Aust. or would they have gone to another country. Where do I go from here. I need help, any suggestions greatly appreciated. Regards Robyn
My Father & his fanily came to Australia about 1910 , I don't know the name of the ship or the exact date , I believe Grandfather came out several months prior to Grandmother with the children , can anyone help me please? I suspect they may have docked at Brisbane as did 2 of my great uncles but am not sure, their names were: John Bean, (my G Father) Ellen Amelia Bean, (G.Mother) children, Bertha Olive, Grace Amelia, Thomas Valentine, Lucy Hilda, Edward John Valentine (my Father),(could have been another Lousia Maud, but I think she was born in Australia) Delma McDonald, NSW, Australia.
Am seeking information on the above ship and in particular information on the trip mentioned. I have a copy of the passenger list but would like some idea of what the ship and conditions on board may have been like. Thanks Terry JACKSON PERTH W.A.
Hello to everyone, I am stuck - I have been trying to find the shipping records of my grandparents from the UK into Australia. The only dates I can go on are: 1910 I believe Edward HORSNAILL was born in 1910 in Surrey. I believe he was the last child born in the UK. I believe two more children were then born in Melbourne, Australia, I don't have a date for one, but the last one was born Dec. 1919. My grandfathers parents are: Walter Harry HORSNAILL and his wife Emma Eliza (nee PHILLIPS). They should have had their other children with them; Mabel, Bessie, Leslie and Edward. Leslie being my grandfather. So, I reckon I have a 9 year gap - but do you think I can find them. I have no idea where came into - I have never heard of them being anywhere else but in Melbourne. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you Maree
Would anyone have information on passengers for this ship, arriving Victoria? Trying to ascertain if Charles and Frances PERRY arrived on it and whether there were any children with them, also whether James Clement MUMFORD, wife Mary and three children arrived on same as well. Any help greatly appreciated. Sally Flynn
I'm trying to find out more about the "Shalimar" which, on board apparently were two Ryan sisters, Ann and Nora and perhaps an Ellen Kennedy &/or Denis Moloney. They emigrated from Ireland and ended up in NZ via Oz (Victoria &/or Tasmania), and family history has it they came on the Shalimar. I'm not sure which leg of their voyage that would be, and was hoping to be able to find out more. Does anyone hold information on this vessel or any sailings / passengers as I've been unable to find anything on recent internet searches. Many thanks, ELizabeth O'Connell New Zealand. The timing would be between early 1860s and before 1870 by which time they were in New Zealand. One / some of the Ryan sisters (there were four but they did not all emigrate together) spent a number of years in Tasmania.

Lusitania's final voyage to Australia before being sold to the Beaver Line in 1900 was in December 1897. She would have arrived in Sydney in January 1898. She was the old Orient Line steamer and not the same ship as the Cunard vessel of the same name torpedoed in 1915. Your Lusitania was wrecked off Cape Race on 26 June 1901. I can't help with passenger lists at the Australian end, but he will be on the outbound (unindexed) Board of Trade passenger lists held at the Public Record Office in Kew, England. I'm afraid they aren't filmed. Debbie Beavis www.passengerlists.co.uk

I was wondering if somebody could help me in location the name of the ship? His name was Ernest John PILBEAM. He left Tilbury Docks at about 12noon on Friday 15th of March 1889. His last record with a date states 12th April they crossed the equator for Albany (I assume WA). His journey ends on 27th April 1889 destination unknown, I assume it has to be Victoria as this is where he marries and I have letters that he sent his sister when arrived and they were from Victoria. Hi listers I have been trying to find out exactly when and what ship my grandfather arrived from England on. I know he was living in Australia in Wagga Wagga NSW at Christmas 1902, as I have an old postcard he sent back to his family saying where he had ended up and how lonely he was. However, I cannot find any passenger lists that give details for that era. His name was Edward Gold, and he travelled alone, and would have been around 28 years old. My father always mentioned the ship Lusitania, but, the lists I have seen do not show and Edward Gold on that ship, and none as recent as 1900. Help will be appreciated.
