    2. Hi Everyone The NSW State records now have up to 1896 on assisted migrants for Sydney but still only to 1859 for Moreton Bay. I am not sure where to go for QLD as most of my lot have stayed in NSW. http://www.records.nsw.gov.au Margb rebel14@iinet.net.au Thanks Tracey - Exactly the message I was going to put out. The NSW State Records Office lets you do this but (as far as I can tell) only for the years 1844-1859. I have 2 ancestors who came to Australia in the mid 1860s and have no idea which ships they arrived on but I do know it was to either Moreton Bay or Sydney. > >However, know the passengers names but not the ships. 3. Hello all, I am still hunting for the ship that brought my GGGGrandfather to Australia from London. His name was Thomas George Harris. I know he was in AUS by 1850 as his daughter was christened then in Colac. I have found two Thomas Harris names in the "Immigrant Index Port Philip 1839-1851" They are Thomas Harris vessel, Maitland and Thomas Harris vessel, Sir Robert Sale both on reel 2145 How do I check this information further, and if that is possible what details would I be expecting to find. 3. Hello All, I have been searching for the arrival from Scotland, of Mary Stewart MITCHELL and her child, Elizabeth between the years of 1881-1884. A lookup was done for me and returned the information: Mary MITCHELL age 22 single arrived Townsville 19 Jul 1883, aboard "Orban Bay". Mary was married in Townsville in 1884, so far, so good. BUT there is no mention of a baby (who became my grandmother). Can anyone offer a reason why the baby is not included in the listing? Thank you Lorraine (Nth Qld, AUST.) 3. Hi John, Sorry about that. My source for the Shipping records for the William Metcalfe's journey to Australia in 1839 is from a part of a publication that I was sent called "Historical Records of Victoria", Foundation Series. Volume 4. Communications, Trade & Transport. Published in Melbourne in 1985 and was available at the Public Record Office Victoria. I don't know if it is still available or not. I hope that this helps. 1. Re: Ship QUETTA 1890
    2. Betty Pilgrim
    3. Dear Pam I was interested in your enquiry about the Quetta. I have a book called "The Quetta: Queensland's worst disaster" by John C.H. Foley. It was published in 1990 by Nairana Publications, 94 Pie Street, Aspley, Qld 4034 and printed by Watson Ferguson & Company, 35 Hamilton Road, Moorooka, Qld. 4105. Appendix 1 has a list of crew and passengers on board RMS Quetta. Appendix II has an extract from "Deaths in the District of Somerset" register in the Thursday Island Court House and Appendix III contains a list of cargo and mails loaded on board RMS Quetta. If you need any information please let me know. I was interested in the Quetta as I am researching the Pollard Lilliputian Opera Company. These children travelled on the Quetta just before the disaster. Does your diary contain anything about these children from the opera company? What was the name of the person who had the diary? Maybe that will be a lead. Only 158 out of 292 lived to tell the tale when the popular British India Line struck a rock in Torres Strait in February 1890. The impact transformed a pleasant, balmy, moonlit evening into a episode of terror. Interesting about your dates - I am wondering if it was 1889 seeing as the Quetta was destroyed in February 1890. Is it a hand written one? Would love to hear more.
