Hi all, I put this posting to the list about a week or so ago and received no replies, I take it that you were all off on holidays and are now back with your little noses to the grindstone searching for all your lost rellies, or are you off in GB checking out the 1901 census, what a shamble that has been. I am trying to trace my Uncle John William HARLEY who arrived in Australia as a assisted Immigrant from South Shields (England) about 1924. I do not know the Port of arrival but family folk law thinks it was Perth WA, nor do I know the name of the ship he arrived on. Any advice on how to obtain the name of ship and date of arrival would be most welcome. I had several people from the list ask me to pass on to them any advice that I might receive, so there is more than one newbie looking for advice. Regards Michael Harley in hot Brisbane.

The Federal Government took some time to get organised. It didnt take over emigration til c 1924. If their State of arrival was WA , you maybe in luck as WAGS have just published a CD of passenger arrivals from abt 1896 I think There are some early 1900 indexes for Victoria and Qld, but none for NSW, TAS and unsure about SA Bye Marg Morters Beautiful Central Coast of NSW Australia

Hi all, I am trying to trace my Uncle John William HARLEY who arrived in Australia as a assisted Immigrant from South Shields (England) about 1924. I do not know the Port of arrival but family folk law thinks it was Perth WA, nor do I know the name of the ship he arrived on. Hi everyone, I'm researching the Delhaas family in Australia. They emigrated here from Holland and arrived here in Sydney on board the "Groote Beer" in November 1955. Does anyone have any information in relation to that ship. I would also like to know where I might be able to get copies of photo's of the boat and I would be very interested in stories from anyone who travelled on her during the mid fifties. I'm hoping there's something out there. Thanks in advance. Mike Delhaas
Hello listers I am new to this list and I do not know if I have the correct list. With the information that I have to date is: My grandfather Sidney Glen WOOD His brother Alfred Percival WOOD came out to Australia and were working at Smeaton, Victoria prior to enlisting in the Australian army (in 1915) and going to France and Gallipoli. They sailed to Canada after the 24 March 1926. My Grandfather returned to England in 1927 from Canada then sailed back to Australia. Date unknown. My query: 1. How can I find out when my grandfather and his brother initially came to Australia? 2. There is no mention of Uncle Alfred returning with my grandfather to England. I would dearly appreciate it if you could please help me. Regards Trudy Ascot, Western Australia
Hello all Not sure if any of you kind people can help us or not. My son has commissioned a painting of the ship Donald McKay coming into Hobson Bay in December 1861. The artist has requested the following information; The ship arrived at Hobson's Bay and then discharged cargo at Williamstown railway pier. The Sandridge pier was at Hobson's Bay. Does anyone have information that would reveal if the ship actually berthed at this pier? It is likely that the passengers would have disembarked at the first opportunity. The details of either pier are unimportant as all that will be seen in the painting is a row of ships in the distance. What I like to get correct is the direction of light, i.e. the sun, relative to the ship's heading. Can you identify the place where each pier would have been and let me know its compass bearing. Any help at all would be welcomed!! Gwenda
Merry Christmas to all. Have a great day and take care. Meg Admin
