Dear Phillip Was the only way back then .Was a great deal of coastal shipping. There were regular ferry services between Morpeth and Sydney that started about 1830 with the ' William IV' and 'Sarah Jane' paddle wheel steamers and a third whose name escapes me Probably no passenger lists done so no records now of individuals...... On the off chance have you you checked Passkeys unassisted index of passenger arrivals to NSW 1842 - 1855 ?? . This may record the Adelaide - Sydney part but may not You could travel from Sydney to Maitland by road n the 1850s but this wasnt for the feint hearted Would they have travelled by sea to Sydney and then by see to Morpeth? > Sounds logical bye Marg Morters Member of Central Coast Family History Society GOSFORD NSW Australia

I do not know if you would class this as "Immigration" but here goes. Where would I find, online hopefully, the passenger list for the "Star of India" 1863 which left Melbourne going to NZ with recruits of men who had volunteered to fight in the Maori wars. Arriving in ports only in the North island. Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Carol Orr/NZ

I was told he came in through Sydney. As he married in 1858, it would be prior to that date I guess. I suspect Gold the prime motivator of the immigration! Thanks IA Helen Geelong. 3. Hello all, I am trying to trace arrival details for a Walter William Hammond (born Dover Kent England 29 Dec 1859). Details I have are that he died in Sydney 24 July 1941 having lived in Australia for 67 years. Doing the math indicated he must of arrived in Sydney (I assume) in 1874 as a 15 year old. Does anyone have him on their records? Any assistance would be appreciated.... Philip Blackwell

    3. Hello Michael Hawkins, other list administrators and people who subscribe to these lists, I had two people who emailed me onlist, one telling me to 'retract' my statement, and the other almost the same...which I felt was a little 'demeaning'. I didn't know the names of the list admins..I do in the lists I subscribe to in Canada, UK and India, but I didn't happen to know the names here, and should have checked that out before putting up a message. I realise what I did, but it was not meant as any harm to anyone. I didn't post messages on the other mailing lists, you can check that through Rootsweb. I panicked with what I saw in my folder, and suppose tried to alert you and other admins, but it was a hoax now I realise. My apologies to everyone if I offended anyone. Thank you to the people who emailed me off list. I have answered you all and appreciate your assistance.
