    2. Lyn You might try Bounty Scheme Ships under the Dr John Dunmore Lang, Ports were most likely Sydney or Moreton Bay. Records on most references are no 100% and one I was researching was not even listed but it is a starting point. http://www.blaxland.com/ozships/ http://www.records.nsw.gov.au (Publications, Online Services, Immigration opens a search facility) http://www.standard.net.au/~jwilliams/ships.htm Under the JDM Bounty scheme he recruited in Scotland to bring skilled people to the colony and Carpenters feature quite strong among them. Often the port of departure seemed to be Greenock on Scotland (JDM home town) Best of luck ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lyn Robinson" <lrobbomelton@primus.com.au> To: <AUS-IMMIGRATION-SHIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2002 10:37 PM Subject: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Migration from Scotland 1840s > Can anyone tell me at which ports in Australia , ships bringing migrants from Scotland in the 1840s would be likely to land. 3. Hello List, I maintain a One Name Study for Preece, and have several lines of interest in families in Australia where the origins appear to trace back to the UK. I am always interested in any details you may come across regarding the actual journeys from the UK, as this may often help to pinpoint the family back 'home'. 2. There are a couple one can look at. BDM is controlled by the states (county) the best is NSW at http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexSrch.cgi?sessionID=208203 Victoria http://www.zip.com.au/~rsterry/gen/vicbdm.htm Tasmania has a Colonial index but unless the person you are searching for was Born, Married or Died they will not be recorded however they will do a search if you have some details on the person. http://pioneers.archives.tas.gov.au/Taslink2.asp Queensland records pre 1855 appear in NSW after that you need to purchase a CD at $250.00 unless your local library has it.
