Hello everyone, I have been asked by our local Mercy sisters to help them check the ship/boat that their sisters arrived on in Cooktown from Sydney on 25 June 1888. It may have been Aramac or Elamang both mentioned in different places which is why a check is needed. I have suggested local papers. Are there local shipping lists as there are for overseas arrivals? Or can someone offer another suggestion. Time is of the essence as this info. is required for a project in Cooktown. I would appreciate any help in this matter. Thany you Lorraine

G'day Marion, > Does anyone know where I could find information for the ship SS Baradine > who sailed from England to Sydney between 1920 and 1928. Providing you are interested in the SHIP and possibly her crew try the Mariners List. Here are a couple of relevant paragraphs from the welcome message. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to Mariners-L-request@rootsweb.com. 4. Please don't send Family History enquiries to the list unless they relate to merchant or Naval shipping and seamen! The same applies to surname lists! Please don't send them to the list! I am sorry but could I trouble someone to tell me how I can delete my name/email address. I have tried! Reason is that although I am interested in the subject matter, I am unable to access my mailbox frequently and it therefore becomes full. Thankyou someone! National Archives of Australia should have a passenger list for this ship they have offices in all States but dont know if passenger arrival info for the whole of Australia is available at each office. I suspect not. They have a very good on line data base for all sorts of info........ www.naa.gov.au Log in as a guest bye Marg Morters Member of Central Coast Family History Society GOSFORD NSW Australia > > > > > > Many kind regards, > > > > > > > > > > Jan > > --- > Incoming mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.350 / Virus Database: 196 - Release Date: 4/17/02 > > ______________________________

My ancestors were on "La Rochelle", a German ship of John Cesar Godeffroy & Son that was quarantined in Brisbane - 1865/1866 journey. There was a big controversy at the time - newspaper articles, a petition by Toowoomba people, concern about the mortality on this voyage, an enquiry was held etc. Another German ship "Wandrahm" arriving Brisbane at the same time was also a cause of concern. To the point: As part of their argument that they had a very good record, and this particular incident was an aberration - scarlet fever, typhus, cholera were rampant on the continent and helped by the unusually hot whether, Messrs. Godeffroy & Son attached, in a letter to the Colonial Secretary's Office, Queensland, a list of prior successful voyages . The handwriting is a bit unclear at time. The first ship on the list is to Adelaide in the year 1850 and it finishes 1864. It would be an edited list for obvious reasons. It gives the name of the ship, the name of the Captain, the year, the place of destination, the number of passengers to embark and the number of passengers who died, specifying if adults and/or infants. Of this list, 17,920 embarked and 320 deaths, "chiefly infants" I want to make clear it is NOT a comprehensive list of German ships to Australia...but an edited list.
