    3. Hi Angie, I don't know what state you are in but if still in W.A. you can go down to the Australian Archives in Victoria Park & get copies from them. Give them a ring first & let them know what information you are chasing. If not in W.A. it is still worth contacting them as they may help you out via mail. I haven't actually gone into the records they hold for immigration as I am born & bred in W.A. but have found the staff there very helpful. Best wishes, Sharon Sharon McBride Perth, Western Australia mailto:mcbride@iinet.net.au Research Interests http://members.iinet.net.au/~mcbride/

I am trying to track information on the ship NORTHUMBERLAND that brought immigrants from the UK to Australia, arriving Victoria ~ 10 May 1874. My COGHLAN / COUGHLAN ancestors were on this ship. I have no idea of port of origin and am interested in tracking the passenger manifest as one or two of the family relationships are a mystery. Any pointers would be greatly received. She mentioned trouble on the docks when they arrived and they were not allowed to leave the ship and the continuation of their journey to Sydney was delayed. So far I have not been able to find out the names of my mother in law and her guardians on shipping lists, nor have I been able to find the name of any ships arriving when there was trouble on the docks. As the first port of call, would the records (shipping lists) be held in W.A. or where they disembarked, NSW.? I do not know the name of the ship, she appears to have arrived during WW1. 3. I don't know where they arrived and strictly where they left from but I would assume somewhere from Worcester Frederick William CRANE was born in Dudley, Worcester in 1859/60.He came to Australia as a child around 1862. His marriage certificate lists his parents as William Robert CRANE and Mary COTTON. I can find no trace of his parents in Victoria. Frederick died in Victoria 1942 and it says he was 80 years in the colony. I've checked as many shipping indexs as I can find, but there is no William and Mary Crane that I can find, but by no means am I experienced enough to find them all. On the English free BDM's I have found a Mary Ann CRANE born in Worcester in 1862 to a William and Mary CRANE. (she may be a sibling) There is also a record of a Henry CRANE, b 1857, Joseph CRANE b. 1860, Sarah CRANE b. 1860. These people may bear no relation to my GG but they could be siblings or cousins. If the whole family came out to Australia together they may be on shipping lists as a group Any help that might get me past this brick wall I would be very grateful. > Where did they arrive and where from? > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: claire <clairet@bigpond.net.au> > To: <AUS-IMMIGRATION-SHIPS-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 4:29 PM > Subject: Re: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Frederick William CRANE > > > > If birds of a feather flock together, I'm hoping the same can be said of > > Cranes and a family of them arrived here somewhere around 1862 with young > > frederick William tucked under their wing. 3. Some say babies are carried by storks, but, a crane hitching a ride on a pigeon carrier is a bird of another feather. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phillip Carruthers" <pcarruth@bigpond.net.au> To: <AUS-IMMIGRATION-SHIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 4:31 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Frederick William CRANE > Was my g.grandmother with him on the pigeon?????????? > > > > I'm looking for help myself as my GG just seems to have appeared here in > > Australia by carrier pigeon. > > > > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >

    3. If birds of a feather flock together, I'm hoping the same can be said of Cranes and a family of them arrived here somewhere around 1862 with young frederick William tucked under their wing. Any suggestions where to look folks? 3. I'm sorry Angie, I can't help you with passenger lists. Perhaps someone else on this list may be able to. I can only help you with the indexs for BDM prior to 1920. I'm looking for help myself as my GG just seems to have appeared here in Australia by carrier pigeon. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Angie Owen" <angio@fishinternet.com.au> To: <AUS-IMMIGRATION-SHIPS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 28, 2002 3:47 PM Subject: Re: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Frederick William CRANE > Hi Clare, > I'm sorry that I can't help you but you could help me . 3. Hi Clare, I'm sorry that I can't help you but you could help me . I would be grateful if you could look up or give me a Webb site where I could look my self, a list of passengers who arrived on the Fairsea from Bremerhafen/Germany on the 6/1/1954 at Freemantle in Western Australia. I actually arrived on this ship as a nine year old but my mother who is 83 now can't find the papers. Also my g mother arrived by plane about 1971. Where do I go to find maybe a birth certificate as I don't know the surname of my g g mother. I am against a brick wall at the moment.
